The 2002 Terrano I recently purchased only came with one key. So, despite having read somewhere that the colour of the immobiliser chip carrier was important (and not having seen mine) I bought a cheap secondhand key on Ebay.
When the thing arrived I found the immobilser chip in the Ebay key. This allowed me to look for it in the original key. One is green and one is blue. What's the difference? Is it the frequency of the chip/RF reader in the barrel? I assume it's nothing to do with the RF transmitter that operates the locking/unlocking? Is there a chance that the Ebay key can operate the remote door locking (if not the engine)?
Second thing I noticed is that the key blade is longer. I'm guessing that isn't hugely significant. Basically, I was planning on using the guts in a new Ebay key shell. I guess I can get an immobiliser chip too once I know the right one I want.
Is this going to be a key that can be programmed at Timpsons?
