Pulled the dash out, nope, no bulb in the eml holder, and no marks to indicate it ever had one. Tried a second hand key/antenna/immu, no joy, buut the immu is different....says audio-link on it. Same Linn connecter tho. I'm running out of ideas here, maybe a truck going for breaking soon :(

Well, still havent managed to move the beastie :WELP:

going to try grabbing a new key/immu from the good people on this site :bow

Massive thanks to Rick for his help, expertise and time! :clap

PS, we didn't fix her, so you're not having the missus. :p Thought i was rid for sure too... >.<

Well, managed to find a friend with an old ex-military 109 landy who dragged the beastie to Richmond Motors for me.

Here's hoping its not going to be too expensive!

**UPDATE**

Well, i got a phone call today from richmond. Apparently, nothing is talking to the ECU. After checking fuses and wiring, they have come to the conclusion its the ECU thats at fault.

Imma get a 2nd hand one, and they'll recode it for £75.00, lets see what happens.....

**UPDATE 2**

after fitting the ECU, its now NOT the ecu, as the diagnostics is still not talking to it.

Im seriously starting to think about scrapping her, as im not going to be able to afford these bills for much longer =(

Any ideas guys?

is it a bosch ecu

Not sure, think its a zexel. Its this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181265623252?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Apparently, even with the new one, the diagnostics isnt talking to it, thus, they cant find the fault.

I cant find enough info on these systems to be able to make any assesments, could the immobiliser being in lock out prevent the ecu being read? is it a problem with the diag line?

Although, i'd like to think that the dealer has all this info, but they dont seem to be making any headway into it

Would it not be worth sticking a bulb in and then trying again? Have you tried accessing the MIL codes yet?

I've had her 3 years, and it's never had a mil light, in fact, when I took the dash out, it didn't even have a bulb holder, nor any marks suggesting it had any. I had tried substituting the oil pressure light in it's place, but it didn't illuminate.

As such, no, I havent been able to check for flash codes. Could someone have bypassed the bulb with a second feed?

Having said that, the stealers reckon they have checked the wiring and feeds to the ecu. I'm starting to think they may not be doing what they're telling me they are - for a start, they reckon they've spent nearly 3 full days on it. Think a suprise visit is in order :p

I'd start there then, bang a bulb and a holder in and then see if you can induce an issue to the car to cause the MIL light to illuminate, I find if I stall mine quite violently it causes the light to illuminate.

Once you've done that I'd then start trying to trace back whats talking to what. Having no experience with Immobilisers I'm not sure I'll be much help really.

Have you tried a different immobiliser and set of keys? More to the point, is there another motor you have access to that you could try your immobiliser and keys on?

Just been searching back through some other immobiliser posts in this section

Do you have the red immobiliser LED near the front windscreen, when the key is out of the ignition it should blink periodically and when the key is in the ignition and turned to position 2 it should stop blinking to indicate that the immobiliser has been deactivated.

When at position 1 I'm not 100% but it should be solid red

Anyone confirm this?

Hi mate i know what your going through I've had this a few times with mine! Although mine is nats 2 I'm pretty sure its the coil on the ignition that's been at fault! I tried everything/method going and it was a simple whack on the ignition and it fired. It happened to me again only last week twice and twice it started by pratting with the ignition/coil. I took the cowl off this last time and unplugged the coil and plugged it back in and the bugger started :nenau
I'm not sure what the nats 1 system has but it might be worth looking at the coil if it has one? Stick with it yourself the garages are no wiser than people on here!
I'll keep an eye on this thread and help if I can :thumbs

Tried putting a bulb in, no MIL light at all.

With ign off, the imm light blinks, ign on, its solid.

I tried a second coil, and a second key/immu unit, but i dont think it was right for the vehicle.

The problem seems to be, the nissan dealer cant talk to the ECU, it just refuses to talk to it

Whats the immobiliser light doing when the Ignition is at position 2?

Apparently the issue they are having is that the diag won't talk to the ECU, reporting 'ECU comms failure'. As these vehicles dont have a can-bus, and all the lives/earth check out, it MUST be a wiring fault.

I'll keep you guys updated as we go on!

The reason i did not try change the coil is i wa unsure weather it needs to be re-coded with my original key or does it just read the key and pass it to the ecu? when referring to the mil light is that the little red one on top of the dash? Have you tried unplugging the ecu and leaving it to try reset it? doing this on some vehicles can lock them!

The coil only reads the key, it's the immu that's the delecate bit. The mil is the engine management light in the instrument cluster, the one on the top of the dash is the immobilizer light. And no, unplugging and ecu will not reset it, otherwise every time your battery goes flat or gets changed, you would need to recode. All ecus have eeprom, electronically eraseable, programmable read only memory, can only be altered with a diag machine.

Or a strong magnet.

Or a big hammer.

Or fire. Now, there's a thought - I wonder what my insurance excess is? :p
