my truck is leaking summat :( , i think its oil , but im not sure  its making quite a large patch under the truck ..... roughly gearbox sorta area at the front , the reason im not sure if its oil is that when the road is wet the leak appears to have a sorta rainbow tint ..... thats fuel innit ?

truck doesnt use that much oil ..... about a litre a month ...... same for atf

Diesel, brake fluid, oil will do it. one drop of oil could cover the whole of our garden pond surface.

Oil disperses across the water surface and due to forces like surface tension, the oil tries to spread to 1 molecule thick, so it can cover several square metres and give this rainbow affect, which is caused by the transmission of light through one liquid to the other and refraction of light then splits the light into it's component parts ie colours of the rainbow.

So what am I saying...:doh

It might not be a bad leak after all, might be sump plug, oil seal, gasket.:nenau

You need to park over a dry sheet, say resting on a few bricks to see how much, and where from.

best regards,

I do like that explanation, Rick

yes we like a bit of OTT explanations, very interesting tho :thumb2:thumb2

could the gearbox be weeping a bit?

Place a piece of cardboard under the area where the leak is and check next day. I do the taste test.
If its sweet - its anti-freeze.
If its bitter its brake fluid.
If its cleanish pink - its ATF.
If its black and oily- engine oil.

Only a small taste in needed then gob it out!

At our time of life the its poison etc is not really signifficant

i do like that explanation except for one thing ....it leaks when the road is dry too ..... so the rainwater falls onto ground thats allready oily ......or perhaps its the rotax conversion ratio oscillating at the double ended hinge piece frequency ?
