the hub ~I was having trouble with failed again yesterday, stripped it today but couldn't see anything wrong. put it back together and the bloody snap ring won't go on. no room for it .
I had the whole drive shaft and knuckle off to do the cv boot (again) but it's all gone back together properly.

HELP !!

Never done yet so cant help M8 :(

Try makeitfit... (PM)

When I replaced the front brake discs, I accidentally pushed the shaft back in and it was a "pig" to get it back in place in order to get that damn snap ring back on.
In the end I wore stout leather palmed working gloves, grabed the shaft from the back, and rotated it twisted it pushed it, until eventually I could get the snap ring on. For the other side I took great care in ensuring the shaft didn't move, so I know what a struggle you must have had.
Regards, Rustic

brass bush went in the right way i hope ?

this time it did - assuming the maverick one was in the right way round ???? Swapped the drive shaft from the maverick as I had a slight CV joint problem - only one ball bearing sitting by itself in the middle of the housing. Oops. I am constantly surprised that these things will still run perfectly well with fairly important parts missing.
Guess I'll have the wheel off in the morning and muck about with it until it goes in.

right it's back on, but only after shaving about 0.4mm off the snap ring and helping it home with the hammer and drift. The serrated washer has cracked though, anyone got a spare lying around ?
Both washers on the mav are already cracked so no point using them, and the drivers side hub has come to bits. The arms on brake A have separated from the brake band itself. Scarey !

hi next time you have trouble put a jack under wishbone and ease it up a fraction at a time and keep trying to refit C clip.
worked for me.

Come to think of it I had a jack under the wishbone and the chassis was on axle stands. I tried to keep the shaft straight and level if I recall.

I used to use the wish bones to jack the car up to remove the wheel, but due to the angle there is a risk of the jack slipping out.
