This picture is ok but still doesn't do the light justice, it is evenly spread over the lens and is the correct red, not pink or washed out, I used standard filament bulbs, the ones that just push in. If anyone is interested I can put some pics up of how I did it :)

Looking good, could you post pics of the bulb holders and how you fitted them please. I did this little mod on my project truck but never been totally satisfied with the bulb holders, first were the best fitting but cheap chinese bulb holders so had connection issues. Second are some of the wedge bulbs, the holders don't quite seem to stay in the holes I made for them.

Cheers

No problem Jim, the way I put the bulb holders in the back of the lens is very secure, I will take some pics tomorrow and post them oop :thumbs

I do think this is a great mod, the original side lights are quite low, and not in the normal sight line of an average driver not concentrating on what is around him.

I did my mod... over 15 years ago, ( details on this forum somewhere) after I saw a discovery, which had the high level and bumper tail lights, and I thought, that looks a safer way to travel, especially at speed on the motorway, where there are "Red lights all around me..." just going into a Chris Rea song there lol...

Technically speaking, it's a non approved mod, as the original lens was approved to provide no glare with the filament in one place. So do a walk past at night, to see if there any issues, any additional rear lighting has got to be better, a lot of third party damage to cars are from rear end shunts.
I like the idea of replacing the single filiament bulb with a stop tail bulb with holder, but I went the easier way, of fitting a 5watt bulb into a drilled hole in the back of the lens.

Rustic

Cool mod yeah how to needed and pics of parts bulbs etc

I like Rustics Vero board idea, when I get around to it I may try that idea. I'd of preferred the stop and tail light holder like I used first in my project, photos are on the project thread. However modern cars don't seem to have seperate bulb holders but instead a moulded plastic holder with a multi plug for the whole light unit which is obviously custom to the vehicle. The only stop tail light holders that I found on ebay were cheap Chinese rubbish which I spotted before mot and swapped back for the original holders. So I'm looking forward to seeing someone else's take on this.

Something I've been meaning to do also. Did buy some bulb holders but didn't like the look of them. Thought I'd visit a scrap yard and get some genuine ones but not got round to it.

This is my next job on the patrol.
In the market for bulbs and holders also, although I'm thinking about moving the existing loom up from the bumper lights so in theory should have all that I need.

This is what I love about this forum, he's joined an amateur and now he's beasting the way doing quality mods like that, well done Dougy boy!!!!

Get some pics up this is also on my project list!!!

Please post up pictures, funny this should come up, I got some dual filament holders off of Ebay, and went to do this to Jiggly the other day, but the holders were just too small for the lugs to grip and be reliable to stay in place, so I was back to the drawing board trying to find another bulb holder...

Ok, so this is my PRACTICE LENS :lol the ones on the truck are a bit tidier and situated directly under the stop bulb where the other hole is in this pic.

I drilled a 10mm hole and filed it slightly wider so the bulb holder was a smooth light friction fit, then I heated a screw driver and made the two slots you see, tidy up with a file or a blade and done. It also looks like the nissan logo :D

This is the bulb holder I used, it has two ears on it and when put in the lens and twisted gives quite a firm press against the rubber o ring.

Beautiful!!!

Have you got any links to the bulb holders mate? and I presume you just piggy backed off the original sidelights?

I couldn't find any connectors for the bulb holders so I made my own by altering some female push fit connectors to be smaller then heat shrinking them right to the tip so they would not touch/arc etc. If anyone knows of any connectors please let me know:thumb2

When I had the bumper off I drilled two holes directly below the brake lights on each side, but behind the bumper and put some rubber grommets in, wires then run straight up under the lens

The dog wasn't even slightly interested though :lol

You've probably guessed but I don't know how to upload pics properly yet, I don't think my tablet lets me.
