Came to work today no problems.
After work, turned ignition on for 5 secs, tried to start. No success, weak battery. Tried few more times, engine cranks, but no success.
Asked colleague to pull me - strange sound, but could not start.
Managed to turn engine on this way:
ignition on - 2nd gear in - release clutch - no success ->
car still pulled - clutch in - ignition off - ignition on - clutch release - engine starts.
Car was driving OK with red immobiliser light on.

Came home, found P1610 fault - immobiliser - NATS Locked mode
I have no idea how it happened, used same key all the time.

Tried following with no success:
- Second key
- Ignition on for 5 seconds - off - on - repeat 3 times -> no success
- battery off for few minutes (not disconnected it for overnight)
- ignition on for 2 minutes
- 2nd key learning

Now immobiliser light changed flashing pattern:
unlocked - flashes as usual (on-off)
locked - very fast dim pulsing for about 5 secs, then 1 sec bright, then again...

I'm worried that it may need PIN now or something... :(

something adrift, rayf is your best man for this, all I know is three successive failed starts blocks you out altogether then it means Nissan or similar computer to get round it, Rick

I'm sure similar symptoms mentioned recently, I believe this particular Nissan dealer made easy work of it with their diagnosis equipment :thumbs

Oh man I hope a dealer isn't the only way!!!!

This really makes me want to get my 16 Pin ODBC plug wired up right now for use with ECUTalk

Well if I remember right, the last guy this happened to went all round the houses and spent a fortune on a locksmith and an electrical diagnoser and prob 2 weeks of asking questions on here, after no success he went to nissan who plugged in their proper diagnostic machine and sorted it on the same day :thumb2

Edit - sometimes as much as I hate to say it, main dealer is the best way. And with the proper electrical diagnosis tools a hard Job can become a 15 min job. Reminds me of key programming, honda and jag charge half an hour as a set fee for coding, in reality 5 mins does the job..

How do you like this cause?

"My local garage found out that the problem was a failed battery which has been replaced and everything works fine now. symptoms seemed like immobiliser failure but caused by battery going instantly dead in a 20 minute period from switching off and going back to restart it!"

As expected from garage specialized in electrics - "We can take a look at it, don't know how long it will take, but our rate is £90 per hour..."

Nissan Ayr £85 -£95 to reset immobiliser
get a new battery first as they said mine was knackered and wanted £200
I needed a new ignition key +resetting £190 all in
old car going fine now and same battery still turning her over
