Hello chaps, I've decided to sell my terrano :augie

Only joking, you'll never get rid of me :lol

The real story is, me and the missus are going to look at an easy first car tomorrow, I am on a very narrow search path as she only likes a few models of car that are cheap and only certain colours.

Can anyone shed light on these models? I don't imagine they are advanced? :nenau

I did post on renault forum but they are as helpful as a chocolate teapot

Confused seems to state different model from advert

If anyone here has had one previously or know any details about these please share

Not a fan of the Clio at all:doh brake & clutch pedals have like a double face on them flat like other cars but the very top of the pedal bends over which means your feet can slip up & over the top of the pedal more so if your feet are wet, My mate had one & she had no end of problems from it:augie personally it would be the last motor I would look at. When it comes to a S/H car you can't be really picky on the colour yes you could find one in just the right colour but high chance it could be a dog, I hate silver motors & never had any luck with them but i've got a silver T2 now I had to look past the body colour & what it was like ie condition, low mileage etc:thumb2
Pug 106's are cheap to insure & the 1.1's are very quick for such a little engine, great on petrol & parts are a good price too. Ford Fiesta's are the same & good old Ford has kept up using the same parts across the range of cars they make as much as possible
Oh just noticed that has a value of £935 some one is having a huge laugh there for an S reg Clio £500 tops can pick them up for £250-300 no probs

Try telling the missus about mechanical practicality and colour importance :lol

I have seen a newer one for 295 with another 6,000 miles on it, but it's the wrong colour :doh
Needless to say when I go to view it I will be haggling with the price, don't think it's worth more than 350 :nenau

i'd go for a nissan micra they go on and on and on and on and on, thats why they're favoured by fast food delivery companies. no repair bills and cheap to run

Yuck yuck yuck, electrical nightmares are Renaults. They are lovely cars when running but trust me from personal experience renos are a mare when they go wrong.
The renault forum is cracking mate, some really knowledgable people but not as good as here have to say.

Go for a Polo, the twin round headlamp shape called a "9N" around 51 plate onwards. Brilliant little cars in my experience.

That said have you thought about a Micra? Bubble shaped K11 great little motos and same badge as ya truck:thumb2

probably best asking the mechanics where you work alex and no I'm not being sarcastic :naughty :thumbs

Simple tell her to keep walking or getting the bus then:thumbs:lol:lol or say ok get what ever colour you want but if it's a shed your going to have to fix it & find the money from somewhere as it's not coming out of the T2 repair/modding pot:augie plus cars can always be vinyl wrapped or plasti dipped cheaper than resprays

See I thought this from a mates car, it was a 54 place convertible, but this being so old, there isn't much to it. There is a cps and a coolant sensor, doesent seem to be too crazy :nenau

The missus outright doesent want a micra, I have been through a big list of cars

Renault v Nissan

I know a couple of friends who have had to scrap Renaults due to rear axle beam corrosion despite low mileage - beyond economic repair.

I rate the Micra and its less popular bigger brother the Almera. Cheap to run easy to fix very reliable particularly the older ones. Later Note also sound.

As an ex Renault owner I can only speak from my experience. Was good when running right and a nice comfy drive but service costs where sometimes a bit pricey.
As with any used car it's hard and sometimes you get a shed and others a cracking motor that will give you years of trouble free motoring.
The choice is yours mate.

if the micra is a no no , then as jim says vw polo .:thumb2

Micra is much better than the clio. But you don't seem to want to be told that.
Keep away from small peugeot models they are sod to get into when repairing.David.

as said, Clio is fine when running right but that shape/year seemed to suffer from ecu issue - I think the ecu is mounted in the engine bay? anyhoo, nice cars until they break but they are so cheap I wouldn't be unhappy with one - I just wouldn't spend any money on fixing it if it breaks. I used to have the MK2 and though I LOVED it, it was very expensive to repair when it broke though why I don't know, they are very basic cars.

One of my neighbours has got a little Peugeot, and he is forever borrowing tools from me to fix it.I last saw his car it was being towed to a local garage, a week before Christmas. He is now driving a little Nissan. (Might be a loan car)

My dad drives a nissan note and before that a micra and had trouble free motoring since he got rid of his daewoo about 4 years ago.

You know what's going to happen Alex your Mrs will pass her test & then nick your truck & you'll be stuck driving the belly scraper:lol:lol:lol

I know of 3 Polo owners that have had head/valve issues, the engine runs sluggish and has a misfire, all had to have head work.
I would look at the Honda Jazz, very reliable car.

I recon quite the opposite, she doesn't feel safe in the Terrano, and is fed up of carrying a step ladder around in order to get in.:lol
Plus it breaks down too often. Also she needs transport to pick you up from the MOT test Station soon...:augie

Looking at it that way... the Clio looks a good buy...lol...
Only Joking...:lol:lol

Seriously, I wouldn't touch a renault, when things go wrong, they can cost big time.
The Xtrail uses renault engines...
I rest my case.:augie

SWMBO has a Scenic Megane, low mileage 05 plate, electric windows packed in within 2 years, cost a bomb to fix, then failed again due to acknowledged design fault. Now fixed at low cost, thanks to tinternet search, not an economical car at all on fuel and its only a small bodied 1600cc.
Seems to run OK most of the time, except strange starting problems, but our garage in UK is always telling her to get rid of it as they don't rate renault full stop.......
