I've got a few halford tool sets and have to admit they are top quality and worth the money considering you get the lifetime guarantee.

it looks ok but what happens when u need a uj to get at a awarked nut or bolt:nenau

never thought of that, maybe conventional will be better, like the second set, that has 1/2" 1/4" and 3/8" deep sockets and a uj ooo what to do what to do :lol :lol

Pricey tbh mate, although I've got a few bits of halfors professional stuff in my snap-on kit from when I was on the spanners and it's still fine 10 yrs +

Machine mart do some great stuff IMO, some cracking sets and you don't need the 'pro' stuff for what we do

you don't need the 'pro' stuff for what we do

you have no idea what i use my tools for? so how can you make that assumption? and not just that these sets have the lifetime guarantee which means if it does break i take it back and get it replaced and not have to worry about spending out again on a new set

Lol chill, you run a window tinting and graphics buisness don't you ? Sorry if I erm underestimated your use of hand tools on a daily basis ...

Actually thinking about it when I met u, u said u were a photographer mate :lol

during the winter most of my graphics are sold online and window tinting comes too a Halt, so i get plenty of time for tinkering and fixing cars for others to save them paying garage prices

i need a new socket set and am thinking of getting this, what do people think of it? any good? or would a conventional set be better?

comments please

I have a smaller set like that, that they used to do. I loved it for computer stuff, and have used it a few times around various cars, the only downside I found is it is not much cop when trying to use it on very tight nuts, as the ratchet seems to jam up.

I also have their ratchet ring / open ended combo spanners, but they are not so good, as the open ended part spreads, and the ratchet ring end has a habit of popping out on a lot of use, or locking up like the one above.

I do have one of their conventional 1/2 inch socket sets, and have had it for about 8 years, which I think it is very good, and has taken a fair bit of abuse.

I bought the 170 piece halfords set, I did have a smaller socket set of other makes.

The halfords one is alot better. I was 50/50 whether to buy it or not, Glad I did now.

We've already said on Facebook mate, halfords tools are the best lol:D

I had (Still have) the big set, cost me about £150 in the sale. Had them about 7 years now i think. If you need to use the lifetime guarantee though you have to have the receipt still. I had a right battle over a snapped socket. I even pointed out it say "Halfords" on it, but he said they had to make sure i had bought it from them and not from Ebay or a car boot sale. :nenau

I was tempted to go to citizens advice and report them.:naughty

So remember they have a lifetime guarantee as long as you have the little bit of paper that comes out the till.:thumbs

I have a fair bit of Halfords stuff, its pretty good, just hard choosing the right kit for the money...

I bought a cheap Halfords socket set in 1995 and last year, the ratchet finally broke. It took a hell of a beating over the years. I bought another cheap Halfords set and it's rubbish. The ratchet is dreadful and you can't change direction with a flick of the thumb anymore. That wasn't a Professional job though.

I've got a Halfords set, its so highly poiished sockets make me fell guilty to get them knocked so it tends to stay in the box. Swedish an German ones used to get all the hammer, especially in 3/4" drive. Never had one go rusty or chip. Quality and now expensive, but a joy to use. David.

ended up gettin this set
