Yep all legal, bought from DVLA, got similar plate on other car TOO BAD, J222 BAD again from DVLA had it some years now and the only place I would buy plates from.

Like the co-driver in the avatar!!:thumbs:augie

Think daved is talking about font/layout etc... as opposed to the reg itself.....but join my little club :augie:)

Question wheres monkey gone:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

Lacroupe is right :thumb2 nothing wrong with the vrm (unless youve made it up ;))but the plate itself is unlawful.

Due to anpr and other technologies one of the big hot topics for vosa and police is enforcing "proper" bs standard plates so the cameras can read them.

That includes font , spacing and end decorations and theyve come from a legit source.

That one isnt compliant :augie

yeah its crap when there cameras cant read your plate:cool:

they just drive past. unless you actually have one right behind you , and they want to do a check . then when it dont read it your in the poop:doh

copper showed me once . very clever stuff

and how many cars drive around uninsured ? i know its very high 1 in 5 init ?

so how do they get past the car cameras then ?

its a bit of a moot point really, optical character recognition is so good these days that technically that plate is perfectly readable, as would many others be even when using 'dodgy' fonts - its only when people disfigure lettering with black bolts or 'bent' lettering it becomes difficult, and thats what should be illegal. The badges at the end make no difference whatsoever. If I can read your bloody number plate from 100 yards you can bet your bottom dollar an ANPR camera can.

To be honest its just another way of Big Brother (and I'm talking government here not the old bill) oppressing the little man in the street and keeping us all in line....and when you think of the way the DVLA encourages people to pay good money for cherished registrations that often need a bit of manipulation to make sense, then gets the police to clobber you with a S59 when you do so, it sucks big time.

Its just one example of the out-of-whack priorities in this ridiculous country of ours.

:D:D:D

Absolute bloody balluks bloody ANPR crap grrr:(
Keep your plate as dodgey as possible and make the buggers work for their bloody stealth tax collection:confused:
Soddin' DVLA will even do you for not checking that THEY have done THEIR paperwork correctly, twats:eek:
EG if you sell your car and send off the green log book scrap of paper with the new owners details bla bla, you should get a little letter confirming you're no longer the owner,:nenau der!
Well if you dont get that letter in 4 weeks, for whatever reason, like the post lost it , or the dvla miss filed it, then YOU are in the bloody doo doos. Poxy stealth tax £80 for them not doing their job right. Bloody facists:doh
So there keep your plate covered in crap:D

I suspect point missed within there

I worked on anpr , the anpr isnt looking for dodgy plates ,but it needs decent ones to read.

The people the anpr pings up and the teams remove from the road are thieves, burglars, uninsured drivers, untaxed cars, wanted criminals , disqual drivers, drug transporters and dealers, terrorists in fact any car linked to anyone of interest .....there and then, on the spot.

Pretty worthwhile really and what its all about in my book :thumb2

Problem is some number plates are completely ridiculous with silly fonts, chopped off letters and carefully placed screw covers, they need sticking on, they scream out "I cant afford a real personalised plate so look what i got instead, arent I clever.................not" :lol

Unfortunatley they and the people who clone cars mean number plate laws need a firmer hand which brings in individuals like magsleon who's plate is perfectly readable but falls outside of legislation, if its spotted. (to be honest its the double badge that draws your eye to it)

Just be glad its generally a non endorsable £30 fixed penalty for an illegal number plate and not ususally court for obstruction :thumb2:D If you go through an anpr camera and it pings up unreadable for any reason or no match (ie doesnt exist), definitely in our area, the team will pull you.

The buzz phrase when it was all launched was " denying criminals the use of the road" we did a great deal of that, fantastic stuff and the team even got a good airing on one of the cop programs :clap

And I havent even mentioned speeding until now :augie anpr doesnt deal with speeders.

Irrespective of font/spacing ,unless a bsi/eu mark on it its illegal.

So what about speccs cameras then....they seem to love those on motorway roadworks these days.

Irrespective of font/spacing ,unless a bsi/eu mark on it its illegal.

Mines got the relevant marks on it etc as its perfectly legal - just not on my car. If it were on a Mistral would be legal but as mines a UK car its not - go figure. As it doesn't look wrong (just looks like loads of import car plates) and is perfectly readable and correctly spaced etc I suspect I'll never get a pull. But £30 once in a blue moon is cheaper than replacing your number plate everytime you go offroad.

Wouldn't surprise me if there wasn't a height restriction on where you can put em

Actually it seems not - which is a surprise.

Details are HERE

However the fairly common practice (especially with Defenders for some reason - perhaps there's nothing solid enough to screw a number plate to on a crusty old defender) of displaying the front plate in the window is not legal, as the plate is

Not fixed
Not at the front of the vehicle
(generally) Not as near to vertical as practical on the vehicle

and cos I like a good argument, I'm gonna pick up Daved....OK I accept that ANPR provides good intelligence, but apparently not good enough to take some of the hundreds of thousands of untaxed/uninsured drivers off the road in any serious numbers?:D

Maybe thats because there aren't enough of them to get around? Well thats OK cos there are all these camera vans about that could be used, but oh wait, I forgot they are government cash machines aren't they - far easier revenue scheme to simply send a bill and three points to a harassed citizen doing a few miles over the limit than it is to identify tax dodgers (who can't usually be chased for a speeding offence either of course) and use a few bobbies to pick off them down the road somewhere....when the bobbies could be better occupied measuring the space between the letters on my number plate....:augie

Much as I accept the principle, the implementation is flawed to say the least!

This country is run by idiots......:doh
