What a thread :lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol started off as "I've got a new numberplate" ended up taling about huan king and the govt :D

Liam..........the point the govt supporters will hit you with is that there'd be more RT deaths if they didnt do what theyre doing :nenau

I personally belieer ther is a place for speed cameras but only as corroboration for a cops evidence.

However a few years back one force up this end of the country flatly refused to fit fixed speed cameras. They used one mobile van that was deployed to identified & evidenced problem areas. The neighbouring forces embraced fixed cameras the lot without reservation.

The rebel areas road deaths were reduced. The other forces overall figres went up or remained static.

I always wanted to be a policeman to be honest, so i could stop ****y drivers and ask them to hand over their keys, which I'd then drop down the drain or throw over the hedge and say "lets see you drive home like that ya bastard!".:sly

wouldn't that be fun?:D

dont we all !!!:jesterbg

thought this would lighten things up a bit :bow

I just woke up grumpy this morning, should have left her asleep:lol Anyway, the point I was trying to make was that more people die from suicide which could well be preventable with correct intervention, nobody looks to be suffering from depression. Motorists have full control over whether they travel and how fast, drunk, drugged or just plain stupidly they drive. Very little proof that the millions spent on trying to reduce motoring deaths works effectively while I believe early medical intervention in depressive illness can be very effective. Just a matter of getting priorities right, that's all.:thumbs

Liam got to agree with that and your earlier post....classic example, my innocent wife had a terminal encounter with a pissed-up pedestrian late on a dark winter night - in the centre lane of the motorway FFS!!!!!!!!!! That will have gone down as a vehicle-related accident when in reality the bloke should have been treated for drinking or depression or both....and the police told us at the time, that had she been going ten miles an hour either side of the 70mph they proved she WAS doing, the bloke would have gone through her windscreen and killed her and/or my daughter who was also in the car.

As you can probably imagine, I have zero tolerance for pissed pedestrians (or drivers for that matter), not much more for a lot of cyclists, who think the rules of the road don't apply to them (e.g. thinking they can jump a red light without penalty!), and not much at all for any dickhead that rides a horse anywhere that isn't a field.

I mean WHY FFS does anyone ride a bloody horse through a housing estate or along a busy A-road, or even a B-road come to that??? Happens all the time and they want shooting.:mad::mad:

Anyway I digress; when you look at the REAL causes of road deaths in this county, e.g. almost a THIRD involve HGVs being poorly driven, a very high percentage where either the driver, or more often the pedestrian, were pissed, and you have to ask yourself whats going on - WTF is the real point of a speed camera if not to fleece us???:nenau.....answer is, the motorist is a soft target.

Actually cancel that, the entire british public is a soft target!!!! :doh

There should be a lot more focus on getting vehicles with no T&I off the road immediately and in quantity, as well as sorting the problem of foreign drivers who seem to be able to act like eejyits with impunity!

GRUMPY OLD MAN and proud of it!!:thumbs

Thanks Paul, nice to know I'm not the only one who can see through the Governments spin. Wait until Wolfie Smith gets his revolution started, then we might see some change:D Seriously, they (all Governments) are being more blatant with the changes they want to introduce, they no longer need to do it the sneaky way as the people nowadays don't want to get off their backsides and force the Government to change. I think all our kids are being turned into wishy washy metrosexuals with no capacity to think for themselves and are quite prepared to sit back and let the Government shaft them again and again. Pity all the 60's revolutionaries are now grandparents or dead, we need a bit of that spirit now. I'm just going to service the zimmer frame in case we need to march and protest again.:lol:lol
