Hi all when my truck is cold the gears seem tight especially droping down the gears tough to get in gear once she has warmed up she is a lot better. However if im in the town and im sitting at red light then go to grab first gear she id a bitch to get in even when warmed up but if i come to a red light just before i stop she will slide into first gear no trouble any ideas im lost on this one. Hope this is fixable??

Sounds like the grade of oil you've got in the box, mine is the same buddy, it's not uncommon :thumb2

I was kind of thinking that thx m8 for reply what is the correct oil for the gearbox and the diffs? My terrano is the non intercooler one 96 model ty all

Bit of a grey are this one i'm afraid, you'll get mixed views from the guys

The only thing we can agree on is the fact that it has to be GL4 and not GL5 because of the copper components in the box. 75w 90 seems the grade of choice but when I drained the 80w 90 out my Maverick and used this I too suffered the stiffness lower down the box.

Use the comma stuff if you are planning on doing a change :thumb2

First has been a bit stiff to get on both of the T2's i've had but found blipping the throttle or selecting first just before I come to a stop always works.

A thinner oil may help, Not too much of a problem in our colder climate.

Thx for the replys guys must try giving a little bit of throttle. Plus thinner oil would be ok in this scottish weather

Does the clutch pedal come up far before it bites, if not the problem may be clutch related as you can slide it into gear when moving

I find dipping my clutch again after coming to a halt, it goes in first time, same as double clutching.:thumb2

But going from second to first after stopping without doubling the clutch doesn't work, this is with a cold gearbox it's OK when warm.

I tried double clutching makes no difference. My clutch pretty much straight away virtualy no play??

Snap!!! I'm going to have a look back through my invoices that came with the car when I brought it and see if the garage were thorough enough to detail the gearbox oil grade

Can these clutches be adjusted to fix this problem or is it a new clutch job??

I have a similar problem on my TDi, cow to get into first gear stationary, but I have found that if I push really hard to the floor with the pedal it goes in easy, so got to have a look at the bush on the pedal for play, the adjustment of the master cyl push rod and bleed it for good measure, but been too busy and having found the short term cure, not an important issue at the mo, Rick

dont forget to check your clutch pedal box for cracks (broken welds) too, very common problem, stops the clutch from working fully. this I know first hand ;)

Ty all for helping these tips are handy to try the only pain in the ass is going into first gear when stationary the rest is bareable
