Looks good, it's good when it doesn't really matter what the grill badge say's. May be a little friendly banter but's far enough.

You got me jealous cos I aint been off road for ages.

You are naughty  But I like you  (in a Dick emery type of way)
Anyone with a SWB should really apply for a permit nxt year. -cheers-

Looks brilliant Dadba, hope to catch a lift next year with someone

Glad you enjoyed it Dadba, trouble most on here cant do it due to wheelbase limit.

I take it that particular route requires a permit from the land owner?

It belongs to the National park and a limited ammount of permits are given out each year. Apparently its seen as lucky to get one of the permits. But to get two !!!! Well its unknown   -wor-

It was the doodars mate tar.
It is a shame about the wheelbase thing but I reckon if a Disco can do it a LWB Trano would. :?

Alot harder going up mate and with the rain grip was slack in places. :p
Lets make sure we get on a list next year mate ? -groovy-

as i understand it national park place limit of 100 " wheel base
on vehicles so upto classic rangey or series 1 disco, still not sure
about series 2 disco as reckon wb same jusst longer rear overhang
for 3rd row forward facing seats.

nice to see more discos on it, shame not more nissans. believe former
member cameraman was first disco over accordng to rangers and said
otherwise all 90s.series landies rare. maybe first frontera too.

dadba did hb travel with you then or take his swb as i reckon it would
fit for the job...

HB Trip

Hey rbrt I wonder if it was a first for a Y61 then mate ? How duz one find these things out tho ? :?
HB went up in his Trano and as far as Im aware he is still up there laning today.
He lead the whole group around in his motor with what seemed like no problem at all. :p
But get this. There was a disco there which completed the pass with no probs at all with only mud terrain tyres being its only mod.
Although actually I think he did keep catching his tow bar ?

maybe.

i thought it had to be lifted, though axle lockers not
allowed for churning up surface.

tbh as not applied myself only know from those that
have been. Andy (cm) told me the rangers had said
even a rav4 had attempted it or applied to which had
led to the restrictions and raised specs.

personally think it seems a shame for sake of few inches
that so many capable trucks outlawed. appreciate some
of shunts on hairpins are tight but a lwb t2 or 110 would
be able to cope i would have thought not like we're
talking full size yank trucks with say 130" wb.

on subject of cameraman for those interested and not in
corc the disco has gone, broken up as had serious
overheating issues. He has a nice series 2 disco for road
modest offroading, hopes to get a 110 when back in work
having been made redundant. Says apart from this track
in lakes a 110 will make a more stable off roader than a
90 with more room for family and be better tug for his
caravan.

wow wha a trip - will write more later when I've got photos to hand etc.

Gatescarth Pass was fab as Dadba has said, Maverick (its a Maverick Dadba  ) romped up it, but it really is a test of driver and machine in the wet like that. I'd say no one part is that hard but its so relentless, climb and hairoin after climb and hairpin for wha seems like for ever but is actually about a mile or so. If anyones ever been over Hardknott or Wrynose imagine them but narrower, steeper, tighter hairpins and on gravel with lots of rocks thrown in and some steps to climb etc.

Dadba left us after the pass but we did more laning that afternoon before heading for the campsite just outside Conniston.

"Lashings of ginger beer" lat night left some sore heads this morning (and this evening actually) so we had a very leisurely pack up and then nto conniston for a nice sit down and a brew before more lanes this afternoon.

As I say more on te lanes later.

The final lane was Rusland Pools and unfortunately the second ford was just too deep and drowned the Mav, only electrics s got it towed back out and started up after a bit of drying out - I just hope the same will be able to be said for my rand new phone (bought thurs evening) and my sisters DSLR camera a Canon EOS 400D which both got wet when the passenger footwell filled up.

Sometime my alternator packed up too but without the light coming on so I didn't realise. It was missing a bit when we left but stopped altogether on the motorway on the way home. Swapped batterie with a mate whos got a winch and twin batteries which got me going again and then swapped em back a bit later on after he'd charged mine up enough to get me home - so ts a new alternator next week.

What a trip - will work out a bit expensive but worth it - oh and I'e dinged the front corner of the OS wing, not sure when but its popped it right in.

Good trip

Sorry to hear bout yr return trip (motorway) mate. :(
Like you say tho well worth the journey.
Cant wait to see yr piciz too.
Hope Ian enjoyed the pass ? -cheers-
