I noticed because I was just measuring the distance of various points from the chassis to the hub and had a difference of about 10 mm which I thought was strange. Then I looked at the compression rods and the thread sticking out from the bolt was 10 mm different, so ill adjust that up and re measure :thumb2
The condition of it all looks fine :nenau

Looking good, will be interesting to see a slightly different take on the setup too, given a few months or so.

I will see what parts I might be able to get of Rick, then I can set about doing the old steering mod. Ive got new idle arm bushes to fit tomorrow :thumb2

Don't know why I didn't think of a Rick before :lol I'm sure he has one or more for breaking :thumb2

Re post 35 bigbunny, your welding is great but it is a cast steel lump original and cannot help thinking your welding will have weakened it considerably, instead of beefing it up I think you have made a weak point, sorry mate, Rick

Your right mate its cast and probably has altered the molecular structure of the arm and may have created a weak spot but I hope its made it stronger!
Thanks for the positives on my welding as I'm self taught and still learning :lol

New bushes ready to put in the idler arm!

Idler arm in place with new swivel bearing bolted through but not all fastened up yet as im working out the other side!!
Once the large nut is off the steering arm does it come off ok? :nenau Need to get it off really to drill out the taper!
Im rained off now so thats it for today

The nut on the steering arm comes off easy enough,40 mill if i recall.Might need a scaff pole or similar.

Measured it at 41.3 mm which is 1"5/8 found an old adjustable tonight so ill have do with that in the morning :thumb2

I had to use a 2 foot pair of stilsons with a bar on to crack mine
Also had to warm the arm up to get it off the shaft.

Drilled the arm out in position as i did not manage to budge that nut!! to be honest though i did not have anything worth removing it with
Steering is all back together now and its back on its wheels. first impressions on a drive round the block and its fine, just a little bit keen!!
ill upload a few pics tomorrow :thumb2
Green laning this Saturday night round Holmfirth huddersfield so ill see how it goes then :sly

a lot more responsive with the makeitfit mod I have got on mine.:thumb2

So how long did it take you to fit the whole lot then? (On the assumption you had the whole kit ready to fit) :nenau

if I had all the parts to hand, modified and ready to fit would take a couple of hours max.
its getting the parts modified that slows me down as I am relying on other people to do the work.

Alex, it's the drag link that takes the time. That has to be machined out and insert bushes in place of the old ball joints.
Everything else is man stuff with Mr Grinder and big sockets :D
OOPS EXCEPT the uber important welding of the steering arms. Oh and then the accurate drilling through the link and arms , oh wait the job is a bit technical actually :augie
Get Rick to do it :lol

Im fairly sure Rick has the necessary parts, just the machining of the new bushes that im not sure on, RIIIIIIIIICK help meeeeeee :kissy

but in all seriousness, I need to get a drag link, and get these bushes machined into it, then the rest is all available/modifiable on motor? :nenau
