Hi guys, been on a pay and play today and ive damaged the steering some what!! Looks like ive got a huge amount of toe in?! Cant see anything bent but not had a propper look yet. What normally goes? I do have an extra support bracket on the steering idler and that looks fine. Any starting point would be helpful. Thanks

Idler arm  they're made of chocolate
Next thing is drag link.

Was not a nice journey home!! Need to be looking at your posts and stealing some more ideas! Do the drag link bars bend? Truck was the bollox till then! Apart from the filter head playing up so I bypassed it and went filterless for the day!!!

The drag link can bend but unusual. Also if there was ANY slop in your balls then you can get a lot of twist on the drag link and all it's bits n bobs. Give the wheel a good twatting then and it'll shock the whole works into , erm, calamity

Front end in bits this week then!! Work just gets in the way :sly
Are the tapers for the ball joints standard size? You mention Ferguson track rod ends are they stronger and fit the standard holes on the hub??

I don't know about std but the fergy one does fit. I got that one because round these parts they're cheap as chips as tractor shops abound ;) They're also stronger :thumbs

Reet ill see if I can find some... thanks pal

Don't get too carried away looking for the fergy ball joints as I can't remember if the thread is the same. On mine I had new tie rods made to suit the threads I was using :)

The Draglink I took off mine was like a banana.
It was also a smaller diameter tube than the new one I have got fitted now.
Got a spare standard idler and a brace somewhere in the shed if are needing one.

Got most some fergy stuff from OLD20 near Shardlow in Derbyshire. The're not the cheapest but reliable.David.

I am going to keep the standard tie rod end on the hub side of the track rod and replace the drag link end with a rose jointed one from here.

will need to open the hole up to 16mm on the drag link and get an m16 nut and bolt to suit.

Perfectly good call :) However from my experience get the biggest strongest RJ you can afford :thumbs

I'll be making up new tie rods, so I can use whatever I want really just need them to fit the standard hub. Thanks for the help everyone. Elty if you have not done the tie eods yet I will make you and anyone else a set for the cost of material which will be almost free as I think ill have it anyway. Looking at the truck this morning it seems the idler arm is bent up! Need myself a steering box to chop up. Rosejoints I can get quality at almost cost from a customer of mine. Let me know your thoughts. Craig

definatley interested mate, just let me know how much plus postage:thumb2

that's why I made an idler brace to try and limit the bending of the chocolate Nissan one.

I'm looking into Toyota hilux ball joints this week :thumb2 so ill keep you posted. Once I've sourced parts ill let you know mate.

I've got to go over to milners at the weekend for a new rear brake cylinder and shoes.
They have got some monster looking tie bars up in the shop so I will make some enquiries as to what they are for and the sizes

Once we have a ball joint and rose joint combo were happy with ill be able to knock the tie bars up + lock nuts. Looked at the idler today and the bushes are on their arse!! For now I might look at making a new custom arm and bush it with brass instead of plastic but keep the bracket. Then its joining the arm to the link bar. Thought about machining out and pressing in a bearing then a bolt through. Just not sure how the bearing would cope?
