What's the point?

The goverment are out to screw the ordinary people of this country and make it like in the victorian age. Keep the working bloke down where he belongs.

should the army be delivering fuel to stations tho ?

What I think it is is propaganda, if someone threatens to strike, if the government can counter it before it starts, it will probably not go ahead, as the impact will be minimal.
Mind you driving a tanker of fuel is probably less of a risk than being shot at.

The blockades of fuel refineries had a greater effect 20 years ago.

You will probably find the army, helping out in the hospitals soon :doh
But they were never sent down the mines in the 70's, or were they?:nenau

its complex. I want fuel. But I dont want to pay those prices. So I agree with strikes, but I also agree with keeping the country running. This country can ill afford the fuel costs, but it can ill afford the massive losses from not being able to function.
catch 22.

deciding factor is from experience, it wont make a difference in this country, no strike will make a difference, so whats the point?

very sad.

as for using the Army, look, I think its way better the Army is drafted in to surplus our emergency services etc than sending them to pointless wars, so im all for it, we should see it more often.

as said think its propaganda by the government to be seen to be doing something bigger problem is when are they going to realise that the ordanary guy is going to get to a point that they can not afford to put fuel in the tank to get to work:nenau
minimum price for booze comeing in so its going to cost you more to drown your sorrows:doh

And PIES!! there hitting pies as well:(:(
I think a lot depends on truck drivers/firms, these are being hit very hard and as in 2000, they had go slows on motorways and main roads...no good having a tanker full of fuel, if it can't get to the garage;);)

OMG NOT PIES

fuel strikes

I agree with the strikes, as an ordinary person on the street i am sick of being bent over by successive governments.

Smoke - i dont but the sentiment remains the same
Drink - oh yes
Fuel - oh yes

The usual victims of every budget

However as people panic buy it will negate the effect on the strikes some what.

A national day of industrial action over all industries would be better..

come the day of the revolution brothers

I thought the tanker drivers were considering striking over pay, not fuel costs :nenau

yes, but you cant argue that the cost of fuel is ALSO on the agenda...cost of fuel affects the amount of money they get paid because the fleets are more expensive to run. I'm not daft, me :thumbs

news reports are suggesting it is over fuel:

or at least giving that impression :nenau
They have been striking in small groups at different refineries since last year.
The usual......Bring in a transport company to do the haulage, so cutting costs through wages. The drivers are given a choice, remain employed, but at 20% less, sometimes more of a cut, or far cough and find a job elsewhere :doh

.... I'm not daft, me :thumbs
You sure about that? :D

More duty on fags ----------------- good,
Minimum 40p a unit on booze--------good,
Vat on pies hmmmm, 1st one free then tax them
Fuel duty is keeping the country going mate, so I cant see that ever coming down. Strikes wont work, they're just a pain for a few days:doh
Civil disobedience, now there's a thought :naughty
Don't buy any fags, grow your own.
Don't buy any booze, brew your own.
Don't eat any pies, get fit.
Don't buy any fuel, brew your own.
Don't pay road tax, buy an old car.
Don't pay tax, go self employed. :sly
