Could you not do it with strops & a scaffold frame :confused:
 
The 'fold' at the top is very sharp and I don't think I can get it back to its original shape. Maybe that a body repair shop can get it back in shape but I am certain that this is beyond my own capabilities. (know my limits :))

If I can't get a 'new' door sill then I will take it to a professional body shop to have it repaired. Not ideal but not going to drive around with that dent. At least the door opens and closes without it interfering so driving it is no problem.
 
I would have a go at cutting it open straightening it out and welding it up again, got to be easier than cutting the whole thing off, and seeing your welding should think you have no problem, Rick

The plan is/was to get a new sill and only use the other 'skin' with the fold. That's why I hope to get my hands on the SWB at the breakers. I can just cut out the outer skin as much as I need. Was not planning on replacing the whole sill.
 
Just in case the breaker won't sell me a door sill. Does anybody with experience in body repair think that this door sill can be repaired?

And is there a place/website in the Uk were you can order door sills or is there are possibility via the dealer?

Yes it will repair. I wouldn't dream of putting a sill on it.

Thats deffo one rout. My first option would be to cut a strip of metal 2" wide x 6or8" long, bear metal the dent at its deepest point, hold the strip at 90 degrees to the dent and tack weld the 2" end to the sill, using a pair of mole grips clamped at the other end of the strip twist the grips slightly so you can hit them, hitting them in an outward direction from the sill and hopefully pulling out some of the dent. Grind off welds and repeat in another place and work your way round till you've got as much of the dent out as you can, weld up any holes you have made and fill.

Ill have to take some pics of things I do at work, Picture paints a thousand words and all that.

Sounds even better, in fact I do not know why I did not think of it, spose I am getting old, Rick
 
Always had a similar (but luckily smaller) dent in my n/s sill by the front door.... no idea how it got there as no damage to the side step etc... Not being very good with bodywork I always planned to remove the plastic kick plate sill cover and make a big enough slot/hole to be able to get a suitable sized flat/round ended bar in and then carefully 'tease' the dent out? I know it would not be perfect (dont want to go the respray route as its mettalic and that terrifys me :(:() but might be a lot better than it is now....and once repaired the plastic kick plate sill cover thingy will cover the hole :naughty

Any thoughts all you skilled bodywork experts??

Illy, to be honest me using the word sill was a bit misleading. What I actually meant was to cut the offending bit out and replace it with a similar piece from the breaker. But instead of the sill it would only be the outher layer of sheetmetal.

I put the body on yesterday and I will use the nice weather to rebuild the engine bay etc. The repair of the dent will have to wait till the last as it will pass an MOT with it and I would like to get the car ready for winter.

How about this for a thought, if it would pass an MOT as it is, why not leave it where it is, and get a replacement bit, cut smaller and tack weld it in place over the old one then grind down, fill and paint.
That way it is only a cosmetic repair. :nenau
 
Rustic, unfortunately that is not an option. The top side of the dent is raised and just misses the door when it opens and closes. So it either has to be cut out or the dent removed by other means as described above.

Started rebuilding the engine bay today. Making reasonable progress and the right side is nearly done.

However I have deleted a photo which I needed today. :doh Is there anybody with a patrol who is willing to take a photo for me of the off side engine bay. I am looking for a photo of the battery tray etc.

I have a bracket which I can't place and somewhere along the line I deleted the photo I took when I disassembled the engine bay.

Below and in the next post there are two phot's of the bracket, front and back. In my storage box it had the battery negative lead attached to it so knowing the way I removed it it should be from around that area.

In the photo's it is black as I have painted it but in 'your' car it is probablt just a metal colour.
