And to finish off, two photo's of welding done by a garage!! One of the MOT failure items was this welding!

Reason that it failed on these welds is due to them not being continuously. And the weld itself is not smooth so the weld is rusting in the little holes in it.

Bloke who done the welding didn't believe that it failed the MOT on it. And I should take it to him. Which is a bit difficult with no MOT on the car and his garage being 300 miles away.

Based on the experience with him and the quote's I recieved to have the work done on the car made me decide to tackle this project myself.

Total bill to get car up to MOT standard would have been around £2300. By doing it myself the cost so far are around £3100, but that means that nearly everything has been done.

tell ya what m8 you have done a sterling job and the plus side is you litterally know your truck inside and out so if any future problems arise you can sort them, as for the welder at the garage stay well clear he obviously wants paying for work that he's not capable of as it already failed on his previouse attempt once again :clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap

Here are some photo's from the repairs to the rust found on the rear body. see previous thread page for 'before' photo's.

In general it is pretty neat welding but bruned to occasional hole, hence the bigger blobs.

And fitted the Load Sensing valve. This was all yesterday. Today I have made some new brake lines for under the bonnet, fixed the front panel into place with bolts and installed the fuel tank & protector. No photo's as of yet.

Tomorrow the body will go back on the chassis!

Load sensing valve.

:clap Getting there now mate :bow

Is that welding out of site to the eye or can you see it ?

Could always grind it down a touch just to make it look nicer & that's not knocking the outstanding work you've done just a question & advice :thumbs

ABSOLUTELY TOP NOTCH WORK. :bow:bow:bow. You should be really proud of this project and as others have said you are well prepared for any future work, not that there will be anything left:lol.

Unfortunately that was the only good thing of the day. A few hours later disaster struck. While trying to install a third beam under the aft body the body slid off a supporting block. The whole body came tumbling down and was laying flat on the floor.

As unfortunately as it was the damage could have been a lot worse with concrete blocks standing around the car. At the moment there is a big dent in the off side door sill (see photo), two of the side step brackets are bent and a bit of paint on the underbody that was scratched (already repaired).

On fleabay there is a SWB up for breaking. So with a bit of luck I can buy a replacement door sill and side step brackets. Fingers crossed.

:doh  :(

Get some axle stands under her mate ;)

As painful as it is, as you say, it's minor compared to what you've done so far :clap :thumbs

Sorry ADZ only just seen your question. That welding is all out of sight, under the rear bumper or behind the covers on the wheelarches hence why it is not grinded down.

Axle stands wont help. I need to get the body on the chassis so will have to lift it up & over the engine! thats why it is on big concrete blocks so that I can roll the chassis under it. Unfortunately when rolling the chassis under the body I have to remove the jacks from under the side step brackets. The body will then only be supported by four big wooden beams at the back and the same at the front. While working on the car it has been supported at the back on two beams so two more had to be installed. This is were it went wrong.

Oh well, just need to get a replacement door sill and she is back to being her usual self. Don't expect a massive problem in getting one from the breakers as I don't think it is a very sought after item from a breakers yard.

Just in case the breaker won't sell me a door sill. Does anybody with experience in body repair think that this door sill can be repaired?

And is there a place/website in the Uk were you can order door sills or is there are possibility via the dealer?
