I have the same problem as you unfortunately, I work 5.5days a week and you're over an hour away each way.

The independant garage I work at is £40+vat/hr and has high spec diagnostics available, just to throw some info in to the garage discussion! We also quote jobs based on the autodata book times.

i have news........i found a guy that fixes 4x4 for the local farmers :augie
he said i could fix the motor for £220 no probs :clap

i now have a large SMILE ON MY DIAL

thats a saving of more than half it just shows it pays to shop around :naughty

Cheers for considering putting it my way but i'm glad you got it sorted.
We don't even have sufficient parking in our street to accomodate another car, good old wimpy homes that were built in the 80's when people had 1 car per household if at all, and now everyone's got 2!

update

just had the work done for the MOT which is tomorrow :naughty

i didnt have to replace the sterring stops after all :augie as they were just removed and cleaned up :augie

so the bill only came to.......... £ 173.10 :lol:thumb2

which is a lot of diffrence to what was quoted by NISSAN THE ROBBIN B*STARDS
