engine management light

Hi All,
went to feed the horses this pm and the engine management light came on, and stopped on for about 4miles. turned her off, fed my four legged friends. when restarted the light didnt come back on.
Anybody give me any pointers as to possible reasons why, or to what i need to check? Unfortunately dont have a handbook.

water in fuel filter is the best place to start.

just undo drain off underside of filter

easy fix and free

The easiest and cheapest way to be sure is to bridge the connectors in the diagnostics plug and read the fault codes
There used to be a download on the old site.

done the fuel filter, opened the wing nut thing at the bottom of the fuel filter, dnt think any water came out just diesel i think. Tightened back up and so far so good, the Engine management light aint come back on. If does will to what TerranoKid says(the download is still there).
