Really weird one today, me and the missus fired up the truck, let her warm up, drove out onto the main road, got about 15 seconds up the road and then a loss of power again...

Pulled into the farm lane next to us, and crawled to a save spot on idle (first gear) foot flat to the floor would make no difference. When I stopped idle was fine, foot flat to the floor the car would, only rev up to 2000. Once you tried to move it had no power.

Turned it immediately off and back on again and eureka!! All the power is back to normal.. :nenau

This seems to be the same thing that got me on the m4 when I "broke down"

No engine lights, no stuttering, no smoke or anything else weird for that matter.. Just no go....

running on veg?? fuel filter or crud in the tank blocking the the flow

Nope, it's definately electrical.

Good shout though :thumb2

how is it deffo electrical? did the eml flash? same happens to mine from time to time running on veg its fuel starvation

I'm used to fuel starvation symptoms ect and dying engine and running rough from years of bikes :lol

I cant stress enough how great the engine is running. Sounds sweet as a nut and the revs are crystal clear no juddering ect up to 2k

Immediately turned off and on, and boom, the power is straight back. No time delay :nenau

EDIT - oh and the first time it happened I was doing 90mph on the motorway, very hot engine

yep same as mine, lift the bonnet up next time before you turn engine off you will see the fuel primer is sucked right down

Ok I will check next time. :thumb2

But foot to floor you don't get any rough running?

i don't put my foot to the floor

Well I wasn't expecting you to floor it, but what I'm trying to describe terribly is :lol the throttle seems to do nothing when this happens. An seems to only be operational when on idle which is electronically limited to 2k on the dot.. :nenau

IIRC you have a substantial chunk of your exhaust system absent.
The loss of power is very likely due to the ECU dropping into limp mode, due to perceived "overboost". This is the MAF detecting abnormally increased airflow.
Did these symptoms occur before the exhaust got truncated?

Yes you do have a TPS too, but it's far less likely that will be the issue.

It's all about back pressure Alex. When I was wee, my mates used to take the baffles out of their motorbike exhausts, sounded great, but in the end wrecked the engine. Engines and exhausts are designed to work together, take a bit off and it won't work that great :augie

Very good shout sir! I would have agreed with you completely if not for the fact that this happened to be before with a full exhaust system.

Previous symptoms were - engine hot, been on for 2 hours or so, on m4 doing a high speed and engine just dropped all power and set to idle, revs just started to drop and the throttle input was nil. Once it stopped on hard shoulder full throttle would put revs cleanly to 1750,

Must stress again, no coughing no spluttering no rough running and no engine light...

This was cured by turning off and on again :doh

Sorry dude I have to disagree with you :kissy

Every motorbike I have ever owned has the baffles out at bare minimum or better still i customise pipes.

My old Yamaha diversion now has straight through stainless steel down pipes and the fattest and shortest stubby cans x2 and she runs like a dream, shoots flames when you redline :sly

Fzs1000 was a stubby - loved it

Tlr1000 custom tri oval twin exit Stubbs - loved it (shoot flames too)

St955 - customer carbon race can - smoothest bike!

929 blade, had a carbon can, was still girly so we cut it down to 1/3rd :naughty

This was my favourite setup.

Still miss the rumble :( floor used to vibrate :lol

Then the next step is to check for stored DTC's, if there are none then you need to check for actual overboost (measure boost pressure) or you have a faulty MAF.
