Hi ya my engine mods to date

Have Built a Custom 3" exhaust system from the turbo back, removing the partial filter from the back of the turbo. Now have over boost the turbo will quickly spool up to 19psi before the ecu shuts down just have to lift of the throttle and away you go again, just working on a limit valve to set max pressure

davemud

As you now have much less backpressure the turbo will spool more quickly and sustain better boost up the rev range, but it should not be over boosting, as your wastegate should prevent that. Do you have a regular wastegated turbo or a VGT on your engine?

I would suggest an MBC at the very least, or something like a blitz electronic boost controller / fooler if you still can't reign it back in.

Davemud - very interested in this custom exhaust thing. :D

I spoke to Powerflow a while ago who recommended against the stainless steel version I was after as they reckoned the welding wouldn't stand up to the vibration on these trucks....but clearly reducing exhaust back pressure (while maintaining a degree of silencing of course!) can only be good.

Could you tell us what you did and how, and what the exhaust now consists of?

TIMBO - reading between the lines of your post, it sounds safe to assume that the standard turbo/wastegate setup should take care of itself with a modest decrease in exhaust back pressure?

Yes- with a turbo- the less backpressure the better.

Even with no exhaust at all the wastegate arrangement should control the boost pressure without a problem.

Thanks Tim - excellent news!!:thumbs

Now wheres Davemud with his exhaust briefing???? :nenau

Just for my benefit cos I'm a turkey, what exactly does the wastegate do Tim - does it ultimately limit the amount of air the turbo can shove into the engine, and if it does, is a mild adjustment (after a fatter exhaust) therefore in order for people (unlike me) who want to push the envelope?:question

great link there Bri..

oh youll also find that very one as a download
