I can answer that for you Rick.

You can tip one over at 5 MPH, its called positive and negative camber causing the centre of gravity to move significantly in the vehicle that the kinetic energy then works against the force of gravity holding it to the road.

As you enter the roundabout and steer to the left (So you can drive round it)the energy is sent to the drivers side of the vehicle, as it returns to the centre, the vehicle would then be turning to the right going round the roundabout and the kinetic energy would move further to the passenger side than it would of if the vehicle was going in a straight line, this then causes the vehicle to tip over.

Its like having a bucket of water, if you have it half full and move it side to side at the same speed the water will get higher and higher till it comes over the top.

The 5th wheel stops the driver feeling the effect till its too late because that will move with the load, the first thing you would know is its going over.
:thumbs

I bow to your superior knowledge, all I know is it went over, sickening feeling, Rick

Rick, you must have had a few roll overs in your banger racing career :)

yes loads, but strapped in like a trust up chicken in a full race harness and helmet it is very different, best one was a quad roll at Smallfields in 2010, there is a video of it some place but I cannot find it, Rick

I used to go and watch you boys at different tracks in the south, bloody amazing some of the things they used to get upto.
I remember one night and there was a car on fire, he just kept going, racing around with flames licking out from the car, the crowd were shouting and screaming because it was turning into a right inferno, I began to wonder why he didn't stop, but then noticed a few marshals getting into a group, the driver was waiting for this and stopped beside them when they were ready..the fire was soon out and a load cheer went up around the track.
Yep, some of the roll overs were spectacular too:)

I used to "Grass Track" minis years ago and put a few rolls together
As for fire, I only had a few engine fires in the pits but my co owner had one on the track. He decided it was better to carry on while he could as the speed was keeping the fire off him at the time. Being welsh he was too mean to stop mid race so finished and did what you saw, drove straight to the pits and got extinguished PDQ.
I do fancy some more of that before I get passed it :naughty (don't tell the wife )

I did see a stonking roll at an auto cross race at Lyden hill once, poor sod was a bit wobbly on his feet when he got but fine apart from that, as Rick said, being belted in and a roll cage do help :)

I took a guy out a Aerena Essex when I was learning but the shunt took me into the gravel and with my foot to the floor struggled to get back on track, when I did of course my wheels were extreme left lock and bit on the good road which took me straight into the solid concrete wall head on at just under 30 motor did not race again, and harness anchors almost tore out of the floor with 2 inch plate washers on, but no it did not hurt, harness was on welded fixings on the roll cage after that, never moved, yes I miss it, but off roading is easier on the pocket, Rick
