Hi about a week ago i adjusted the torsion bars to lift the front suspension as the nose had dropped .
And have noticed today that both cv joint boots/gaiters ave split is this just bad luck ot could it have been caused by raising the front onlt took it up an in or so .

It doesn't help, as I have posted elsewhere, but probably already well on their way at that stage so can't see such a smal adjustment would make an difference.

its a PITA job to do yourself and not exactly cheap in a garage - get your calipers checked at the same time though while its all in bits.

Its immediate MoT failure as I'm sure you know :(

Hi thanks its booked in the garage for next week would do it myself but work means i do not have time .
The calipers are all ok as stripped them and cleaned about 2 weeks ago ,but they where seized before i rebuilt them.
Am expecting a bill of £200 approx but it has to be done:doh

I cant comment on the terrano gaiters and dont have a Terrano onmy drive to look at but.................

A while back the gaiters split on my SEAT, (not disintegrated or flapping about) they were a hassle to get o for reasons I dont recall.

I degreased them , filled back up with the proper grease then resealed the split edges with a special bostik glue who's exact name escapes me at the mo, I think it may have been something like "vinyl weld" (yes I know theyre rubber :lol )

The repair lasted at least two mots and definitely as long as I had the car which I did mega miles in.

toalt cost, well under a tenner plus swarfega.

May be worth a go :thumb2

£15 will get you a decent s/h drive shaft from the scrappy. Then about an hour and a half to change them:D
However check with your motor factors because I'm sure there's some gaiter repairs you can get which are split and have a sealable seam thing going on:augie
Daveds scheme sounds good too and the 200 squid you save can go on a top wekend out:cool:

 Air beds  AAAARGH
I've patched far too many of the damn things:doh
3 weeks ago before we went to Bala for a sailing comp, I had all the air beds out to service them:augie Front room , 5 air beds , 2 cats and an excitable collie:eek:
Fixed them (ish) first night camping we made 5 hours the best yet:doh
So sat. I sneaked off and aquired a new one from the garage:clap
Luxury :D but dont tell the kids :lol

have had a look at the split gaiters ,but having talked to a mate who used to be a mechanic they can split and not seal very well and the truck is my only vehicle and used off road.
The cv jints themselves are in good condition if i had more time i would do them myself ,but our works outage starts saturday and will be rather busy for the next 10 weeks .
So the garage is really my only option :(
