Thats similar to the one I have, but mine pivots in the centre, rather than the long bolt.. Great device.

If u hit it very hard with a big hammer it will come out, leave the nut on a few turns so u dont hit the threads

yep, i got a bigger hammer :thumb2
bolts sheared on upper ball joint so will have to pick one up in the morning.. bolt also sheared on abs sensor but its as tight as a tight thing so will ignore it!
all ready for new bj in morning and new boot :thumb2
the hub is held on by one circlip on my terry, apart from the bj's and track rod, ive got some pics to put up later.

If you read my posts I say don't undo the 4 bolts as they will shear, first thing to undo is the lower 22mm nut on upper bj

Also, unplug abs sensor in wing and unroute the loom from around the wishbone

Thinking about it guys, it will be easier to remove the hub complete

So, undo the top ball joint first, and get that out. Undo the big nut NOT THE 4 bolts !! They will just snap, then ull need a new top BJ

:augie

yep, i missed that :doh
i undid the bottom bj 27mm nut but i couldnt get it to shift so i crimped it back up and went to work on the 4 bolts out of desperation....the top ones sheared as you said, luckilly the 4 bottom ones undid easily.... some weight in the hub ffs! do i need high melting point grease on bearings and cv or normal?
thanks everyone for your help, mike.

Cv grease

Boot will have some with it tho

Are you doing both boots as per my suggestion later in this thread ?

For reference, Part number for inner cv (tripoid) joint boot :

Firstline fcb2648

Drivers side was split so had to nip up town and get this, £13 so not too bad

I'd recommend anyone doing cv boots to do all 4 at same time. Then u can just pull the circlip off the tripoid joint end, slide the tripoid off ( carefully as it will fall apart so keep it inside the outer cup) then u can slide a new outer and inner boot down the shaft, piece of piss this way, you'll need loads of cv grease tho, worth getting a bit extra ;)

^^ :)

ive had a good mess and tug at the inners, they are sound stinka. now ive done it once it shud be a piece of p#ss , he says, aching in his arm chair, waiting for the ibuprofen and southern comfort to kick in.....:(
has ur truck got a hub nut, mine has fixed hubs and only a circlip holding the drive shaft on
thanks again :thumb2

Yep only circlip holding shaft in place

Tripod is the type of joint on the other end to the cv

You say you've already done one ?

What method are you using to get the boot on ?

i got them stretchy doo dars that you put a link on for, off ebay, seem good, are the clips any good or shud i use cable ties too?
i aint finished it yet, need ball joint....

Did u get the bailcast dura boot dbc 100 ?

The outer metal clip is fine, but the small one is shit, I used 2 decent cable ties on this

well that was fun :( that grease gets everywhere! the stretchy boot doo dar worked a treat, new bj fitted and all is well in the world....
had tracking and new tyres fitted today, drives great! thanks everyone!

so, heres the how not to do it guide.....
after youve jacked it up, and supported it....undo the track rod end bolt.

thers a blinkin cotter pin to undo first! then take off the calliper and tie it up out the way, just 2 bolts but pretty heavily torqued

do not stretch the brake pipe or twist it too much!
flip off the hub cover, using said screwdriver, or your own!
