Did the n/s tonight, pretty straight forward and these 'bailcast duraboot' strechy cv boots are the dogs balls !

Took whole drive shaft off after first removing hub as previously described (dont have to touch bearing btw, just take little cap off and remove circlip)

Their inner cv boot doesn't fit, as the tripoid joint needs a funny shaped boot to fit, but my inners are sound anyway, only slight surface cracking will do for ages yet, ( to do inners there's a circlip on tripoid end of shaft, remove that and tripoid comes off then boot slides off)

I made a cone out of a coke bottle, then taped the end with insulation tape, a bit of wd40 and it pissed on, no drama. Previously wiped old cv grease off tho, then after boot was slid over I pulled it out the way and repacked cv joint

With it all stripped and on the bench like that cant you knock the cv joint off and use normal boot

Tried that, was hammering fook out of it, no chance it was coming off almost like it was pressed on or sommit

You managed to knock them off ?

Besides these strechy bailcast ones are £5 each and very tough

No not on a terrano but they must come off somehow:nenau

Well, when I trashed that outer cv and the cage collapsed, I tried to press what was left of the cage off the shaft. I had 20 ton of pressure on it and it never moved, me and my mate were confused ! It's like it is super pressed on or their is some internal circlip that won't let it come back off once on

Ill do some research ive got knackered driveshaft they are normally held with internal circlip sharp smack with hammer normally takes them off but we will see

confused? just how did you configure a press to push a CVJ of a shaft????? Rick

The cvj had exploded, all that was left was the inner part of the cage on the shaft ...

Ah so you were able to push from the CVJ side of the shaft with the inner part on the push plate, if 20 tonne did not move it then it was probably rusted which may have been a contributory factor to the failure anyway, but they have to come off as it will be impossible to manufacture the CVJ otherwise, Rick

Yes, outer part was gone, press from cv side.

No rust tho mate and it had always been sealed and shiney inside, only reason it exploded was because I added those dreadful balljoint spacers ( long binned) which caused cv to lock up on full droop and shatter the cage

Do you mean these... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330684975920?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Would these replace having to shim for camber adjustment?.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360619289934?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

To replace the CV gaiters (outer) I use the split ones you stick together... pie ce of p**s to fit as long as you keep it all clean and take your time tostick them a little at a time. Last ones were on for about 2 years before they start to tear.... just cut off and do again :clap They do cost about £10 a side but that is for boot/glue/grease etc..... takes about 40 mins a side :thumb2

Yes thems the spacers, AVOID !!

As for those bolts, I can't see how they would fit a Terrano as they are too long and the Terrano has captive nuts in chassis

I just got longer bolts and added 5mm of shims per bolt to get my camber back in spec

Sticky ones are crap in my experiance mate, each to their own tho.

For reference, Part number for inner cv (tripoid) joint boot :

Firstline fcb2648

Drivers side was split so had to nip up town and get this, £13 so not too bad

I'd recommend anyone doing cv boots to do all 4 at same time. Then u can just pull the circlip off the tripoid joint end, slide the tripoid off ( carefully as it will fall apart so keep it inside the outer cup) then u can slide a new outer and inner boot down the shaft, piece of piss this way, you'll need loads of cv grease tho, worth getting a bit extra ;)
