Those of you that came to the Wales meet will be familiar with that expression [emoji38]

Pete asked this question and it became the running joke of the weekend, Pete thought his rear diff was running a bit warm and I don't think anyone could agree then what the running temp of a normal working diff should be :nenau

Yesterday on the way home from work the 2.7 developed what I can only describe as a "judder" from the back right of the truck.

I'd describe the sensation as being similar to hitting a set of rumble strips on a motorway slip road or riding a skateboard with a flatspot on one of the wheels.

My diff seems to be seeping from the casing on both sides and when I touched it, it burnt my hand, quite sore!!!!

There also seems to be a lot of play from the prop diff side not in keeping of the normal UJ failure either as they appear tip top and not that old.

I'm going to strip the hubs just in case it could be brake shoes and also check bearings too.

Will be a bit annoyed if the diff has gone but also the opportunity to switch from the C200 Dacia shite to an old school cast H233 :sly

Pass bro :nenau

Interested to see what develops from this though. I'm assuming you still have drive so if it is the diff it can't have gone completely. Have you dropped the oil?

Who would have thought cup my diff would become a relevant question :lol

Yeah still got drive dude and at the moment it's behaving and not causing too much of a judder but it's still there :/

Aw man. Mine was hot after a run. Almost unbearable to touch.
Time for the swap:naughty
Come and do it here at my brothers place. :thumbs

On a more serious note, is yours rusted like Ians was?, and Ian, did you ever have a look inside yours when you took it off? I'm trying to think what may cause it to get so hot, I wonder if the bad condition of an exterior could effect the performance of the interior? :nenau

A while ago I had a member visit with the later diff and after walking beside it while he drove around my yard, I was so convinced that a bearing had broken up that I removed the rear plate to see, all looked good but oil was iffy, so plate back on new LSD oil in, took it up the road, cured, Rick

Handbrake has become slightly less effective recently, fluid level is fine :nenau

I think I'll have to investigate this tonight

Shaft seal fooked. Probably. I'm also running old rubbish oil in my diff as I like 'em tight 😎
