If it happens again, invest in a helicoil set. Various sizes available.
Drill Hole.
Tap with special tap.
Fit helicoil, which looks like a small spring, using tool provided.
Use original bolt or replacement.

Job done.

IF the base is aluminium, then the fixing will be stronger than the original.
In steel, just as strong.
So don't despair.

best regards,
Rustic

Best invention ever - got me out of a few scrapes :bow

I'm glad you've got it sorted, I've recently done mine and can also vouch that it is a bugger of a Job lol

I was going to offer to help as I'm flying out to Iceland next week lol, where abouts are you?

If you have only snapped the spade terminal off of the temp sender, it is possible to solder a short length of wire onto what is left of the terminal, and then put a spade on the end of the wire... you can do it in situ as well, so no worrying about coolant loss.

I used the Dremil to make sure the old contact area was nice and clean, then just soldered the wire on. I cable tied the wire back onto the temp sender, so there was no load on the joint.
It was the temp sensor that goes to the (what passes for a) computer.
I can be resourceful (aka cheap) and I did contemplate a scheme to reconnect the 2 protruding fragile wires from the broken sensor to the cable thingamyjig. but as I was on a roll and getting used to the professional standard, I bought a temp sender for about £16.

Thanks Rustic, that sure beats the tube of cold weld I was beginning to eye in desperation.

Well, I have a few other problems that just might need ..... :)
Nah, seriously If your idea of a holiday is helping to repair another man's Terrano, when you could be energising your joints in a hot pot or floating around the warm swimming pools, then I have to applaud your mechanical dedication, I might even question your sanity.
It was a job and it was an outside job, but the weather was just brilliant, >5C with the sun shining and no wind, teeshirt and shorts.
I live about 15km in an isolated spot outside Reykjavik, right where a few thousand Brits were billeted during WW2.
You can always invite me for a coffee at breakfast time in your hotel. I'd be up for that. Send me a pm.

PS. remember, don't mention the (cod) war and profess total antipathy towards Gordon Brown.
