I have read through this thread and I m afraid I'm still no wiser. This is a photo of my 16 pin connector going off the pins shown can you please tell me the cables I need and the program I should download please.

I cannot tell the orientation of your plug but you do not have pin 7 as it is 2nd from the end and all your 2nd pins in are blank, so yes you can use ecutalk, as you have consult 1, best get the pin outs from banshee or rayf, Rick

I'm afraid I can't help with this as I'm still no wiser myself and still need to unable to connect to my own car.

Consult I wont work on this Rick as it's the 16 Pin EODB type plug that only Supports Consult II or EODBII protocols I think, weird though as all the ones I've seen pictures of or in the flesh look like that however I have a K-Line Clock Pin on Pin 7 for some reason and I'm wondering what protocol mine supports at all :doh

We need RayF to resurrect the research

Consult will work on the 16 pin connectors.
There are two types of 16 pin connector found:

If you do NOT have pin 7 fitted then you have Consult one and you can use ECUtalk with a suitable cable. This arrangement will be pre 2004.

For post ~2004...
Where pin 7 IS fitted, you have Consult two and basic EOBD. ECUtalk is unlikely to work with this configuration. A Consult two or EOBD should work with this configuration.

I have discovered that something is a bit different with the connector as I purchased an EOBD II reader which I was told would read my car. Mine was built the very end of 2003 and so looks like it got the older 16 pin plug without the 7 pin. Banshee did you say yours had the 7 pin or not? The later 2004 apparently run standard EODB II and the reader I have bought should work.:nenau

Yes, Banshee's 2004 does have pin 7 (K-line) fitted, so will work with basic EOBD.
Your 2003 model is Consult one/ECUtalk only.
If you ask Zac nicely he may lend you his cable for testing?

Now that's a good idea :thumb2

Sorry guys, I need to resurrect this...

The general consensus seems to be that before 2004, is OBD, after this is more of a Black art.

My 1999 T2, has the floating 14 pin grey socket connector under the dash, which fortunately makes life simple, and I know I need OBD.

I therefore purchased a "14 Pin Consult II OBD DDL USB Code Reader", loaded ECU talk, and got it working with my car...

Perfect. :clap:clap

Suz's 2001 T2, has the white 16 pin socket connector mounted in a metal bracket under the dash, so I purchased a 16 pin plug connector and made a converter... Nothing...

I removed the plug from the bracket to get a better look, and hers has a lot more wires, including the Pin 7 that has been mentioned...

So I take it, that despite hers being only a 2001, she has the later socket, that is not compatible with my reader.

So.... what do I need to read the codes from hers?

There are two wiring configurations for the 16 pin socket.
Pre 2004 without pin 7 fitted can be used with Consult one (EcuTalk) no EOBD IS POSSIBLE ON THIS.
OR
Post 2004 WITH pin 7 fitted Can be used with Consult TWO or a generic EOBD reader. NO ECUTalk on this.

But what I am sayijg is, Suzs car is 2001, but has later plug as it has pin 7.

If her car has pin 7 and ecutalk does not work then she must have the later socket etc, when you next pop down I have both a cheap generic reader plus a dedicated lap top, Rick

Cheers Rick... I do not need to connect it up at the moment, I was just puzzled as to how her car can have the later socket when it is an early one, well before 2004. It's annoying to have the kit to connect up, and then find you cant.
