:thumb2oh if any one is passing and wants their truck plug into my consult tool your more than welcome
This is an interesting thread, and I would like to hook my truck to the software.
Unfortunately a lot of it is going over my head, especially the IT stuff.
I hope someone might indulge me for minute...
Where do I find the diagnostic socket on the truck? Under dash, up by fuse box on Drivers side. It's loose, and just hangs there.
Where can I get the ECU Talk software from? First post in this thread, there is a Link
I have a laptop with Windows 7 professional loaded. Is this compatible. Not sure, reading the posts in here though, it should be
I don't know if it has a serial, or USB port. What does a serial port look like? Serial ports are not very common on laptops any more. Generally, it is a 9 pin "D Type" connector, sometimes a 25pin "D type". In the case of the more normal "9" pin, 2 rows of pins, one 5, and one 4, in a loosely speaking "D" shaped housing
What cable will I need for a 14pin socket, and which one for a sixteen pin socket? Again, in the very first thread is an Ebay link to the 14pin. Not 100% sure, but I think the actual output protocol is physically different between the sockets, so not sure you can convert from one to the other.
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.
Regards
Alan
See above in red.
Thanks for the reply. I'll start off by finding what plug I have on my car, then take it from there.
It doesn't look to costly to set up either.
Regards
Alan
You have a 2001 Sport
I have a sneaky suspicion that yours will be one of the newer 16pin harnesses that its bolted onto a bracket, still under the fusebox though
