ramps sounds good! hows the turbo? my mav started playing up today. loss of power until turbo comes in. good luck getin sorted

No play front to back and minimal side to side, the oil all appeared to be coming in from the breather pipe on the rocker as there was none in the pipes closer to the turbo. It turned out the intercooler was cracked but a mate fixed it for me today, now I've put it back on and seems more powerful than ever :thumb2

tried your test again tonight after a decent run :doh

clutch is without a doubt slipping when it is hot, plan to change it Saturday and can do pics - but - if you are doing it yourself try to ignore the ramps and stuff as I intend to cheat a bit :naughty

Thanks for all the advice everyone, ordering the clutch from milners who can do an OEM quality replacement for £159 including VAT and next day delivery.

before you do, check the slave cylinder and hose, the hoses can collapse inside and act like a one way valve, as the car gets warm so does the clutch fluid and could put pressure on the slave cyl, bit like resting your foot on the clutch pedal, I say this because you have done the heavy test and it passed, with flying colours, it will be most odd for it to slip when hot if it stalls the engine straight away when cold, what you would see in that case is it would stall the engine but not as quick say a few seconds and if you tried the test again within a minute it would probably slip and not stall the engine, I still doubt very much that your actual clutch is in need of replacement, Rick

cheers, I'll try it again in the morning when it's cold and see what happens, so it could be the slave cylinder then. Where is Briggie with the manuals when you need him - forgot, he's with you :doh

My clutch died on me last week on my way home from work, stripped the box off today, I found it quite difficult I must say, the bolt on the top of the starter motor being one to mention............... the clutch has a large fail point in the middle, where the centre has given way.......... I'll photograph the whole venture tomorrow when its going back in, did the job on my own on a hydraulic ramp in a mates garage. took the box out rather than the engine, quite hard to move the box, didn't break it down into sections tho, maybe easier if I had. Not looking forward to putting it all back together but ho hum....... need the car. Got a complete HD clutch kit for £150 plus vat so shouldn't need doing for a few years at least. Not a job for inexperienced unless you want to struggle.....

I got Briggies out at the mo, when it goes back it will be without the transfer box, it comes apart real easy and makes a big difference to the weight and the balance, no oil loss to worry about, be very careful not to put any strain on the center plate as it goes back in, much more difficult with a manual (long first motion shaft) than an auto (spigot only 25 mm) Rick

confirmation ive only got a small one then :augie:lol

Clutch update

The flexible pipe seems fine, no signs of problems or leaks with the cylinders, and using the hole for the clutch lever and a little camera an light thingy, there is no oil inside the bell housing or on the clutch itself, it does however smell burnt and looks very worn!

So tomorrow we are going to swap the clutch!

Only just picked up on this one Plank....if it were me I'd also swap the spigot bearing...cheap little sintered bronze thing but it broke up on one of my 02-plates and made a right bloody racket.

:doh don't mention the spigot bearing! I ordered one from milners and it wasn't in the flipping box! I called and swore at them this morning, but the result is, do without or wait 2 weeks to do the job - and that means no rally next week, so I have my fingers crossed for doing without :doh

tried all morning, no chance on sunday :(

bloody milners :(

I am on tender hooks, what was the result of the slave cyl/pipe test, I really do not think your clutch has gone, I used to do exactly the same test on 280 hp 12 liter truck engines I did nearly 300 k miles in my 2800 Daff had it from new and never had a clutch and only one set of brakes, used to do Vienna and back every week in the winter, I am digressing, Rick

convert it to auto , then you wont need a clutch :thumb2:lol:lol:lol
