hi,

Clutch was replaced about 2 years ago.

Pedal often slow to raise to top.

Last Thursday BigBunny kindly replaced the clutch washer.

This weekend thought felt some slip, Then today a run into
Derbyshire and slipped in 4th, by time got hoe slipping in 2nd
felt lucky to have got the family home.

Can a clutch only last this long, we don't ride it.

Before felt awful today did wonder if was just an adjustment thing as
if pedal somehow needed to come higher than top of its travel

just a thought is the clutch pedal bracket broken and not letting the clutch full engage...fully raise? common problem!

seems to be moving ok under dash, pedal been stiffer for better
since bush done.

can see where pedal returns theres an adjuster bolt that presume would

let pedal raise further, or not as far. when was only slipping in 4th felt
maybe if pedal was higher would give more bite, but am I mixing cable
vs hydraulic linkages.

in outbound journey seemed worse further on but on way home showed
sooner.

check at the bell housing, does the release arm move a bit, if not it is a hydraulic problem, slacken the bleed valve a bit see it that lets it go slack.
If it does then refer to earlier posts on this problem, hoses, cyclinders etc.

bite point was quite high, but progressed to being top of pedal travel.

Check the flexi isn't ballooning, wedge a three foot length approx... cut to suit, of 3x2" between fully pushed down clutch pedal, and say the seat base, then go under and have a look at the flexi, and check for creep of the slave cylinder and look at the flexi, and check for leaks.

Your new clutch should be fine really as you can often get over a 100K out of one:augie Are your injector spill pipes ok ? Know it might sound a silly Q but an old member called Cosmic (you might remember him) developed some clutch slip & the cause turned out to be diesel leaking from the spill pipes running down the back of the engine & into the bell housing causing his clutch to slip:doh

you should be able to push the slave cylinder arm back into the cylinder with ease, if it is not possible or very hard then maybe the pedal is adjusted wrong, the hose is failing and acting like a one way valve, or the master cyl is bad, Rick

more testing

How strange no leaks or bulges in pipes found dropped clutch in 4th and stalled also let up gently in 1st and stalled
Been for a run climbed hills in fourth and fifth. On flat gone 30 to 60 in fifth but given r more throttle and revs gone up but not speed saw 3 k at 60 + but revs should equate to 70 so eased off.

car sounded like an auto, reving, but not improvingm though had pulled firly to that point.

so your clutch itself is OK there has to be a problem outside, I would change the hose to start, as you cannot tell from the outside what it is like, Rick

I assume your stall test was 5th gear full revs, drop clutch, no other test is good enough, it has to stall, Rick

err no

let clutch in on 1st idle, stalled

and dropped on 4th idle, stalled/

must have got muddled didnt realise needed revs.

have to try tomorrow, bit late for all that comotion.

Ahhh now this is interesting, I have noticed very very rarely I will get a quick blip of clutch slip, think mine was in 3rd. I've only noticed it 3 or 4 times.
And my slave, master and hoses are done will full bleed. I still have leaky hoses though :thumb2

ok did full clutch test Solarman's style

3k, no brakes, stationary, 5th, dropped. instant stall, truck never moved!

talked it thru with my dad, thinks clutch contamination sounds possible.

funnily enough guy at garage said similar, thought sounded as if due to
heat it had glazed. asked about latest drop clutch test and said could help
break up glaze?, to run it and monitor.

now thinking when was under neath there was liquid on cross member
near, not so much oil as dirty clear, diesel with muck off block as dripped
down maybe. not enough to show on drive.

about to have a chat with Solarman, need to have it sorted, its tintent
tugging season !

some pointers from Rick, thanks again for your time mate.

replace flexi hose.

check free play in pedal, need some, possibly what was there taken
up by new bush, need to adjust spindle going into master, Melissa
also suggested this on facebook, thanks too.

want car in for service so reckon replace hose and check adjuster same
task.

Did my flexi hose recently, made all the difference :thumb2

I no longer get a sinking pedal, still have experienced a few slips (all be it minor ones) i suspect the leak pipes as mentioned above :thumb2

hi I had the same problem with my maverick it had a new cluth fitted before I got it. then it would slip in 4th I changed the cluth slave & master cylinder and flexi & metal hose no more slipping it pulls like a train I changed all of the bits in one go as I didn't have time to try one thing at a time. I was going to sale the maverick but im not now its going to be my daily driver.hope this helps
