The old starter you have on the floor somewhere, pop your jump leads onto it and spin it over. If it works then the issue could well be wiring related and not the starter at all :augie

all sorted! was a wiring issue, which has now been solved!
basically the positive lead on the battery needed extending as the end was in poor condition, but i didnt have enough give in the wiring loom to just cut the end off then re-attach, had to extend it with another cable, but the join wasnt good enough.
i will check the old starter motor when i get round to it to see if its working correctly, but i suspect that its fine, in which case i now have a spare! :clap
You may also find it spins fine with no load on it, but may still be broken. Worth holding onto though!
