I have a full width big ass intercooler so ignore that on mine. Here you can see the gap where the starter comes out. Pretty much everything there is pliable ish , dipstick tube can be shifted round too ;) Cables on the inlet mani may be tight but suck it and see.

yeah i took intercooler off & undone any cable clamps in the area, (every 1/2 inch helps) as advised earlier tie a bit of string on as you may want to pause between fits of swearing, mine came up narrow end first. think i removed a bolt for the dipstick tube too just to move that a bit ? & dont forget to keep the plasters handy, putting the new one in was a lot quicker

It's like Tetris mate, it trook me 5 mins to get the bolts off but about 30 mins to wrestle it out, you will not get it out from above, it must come out from below

Sorry, but I've taken out at least 3 on different trucks and replaced them all through the top:nenau

Is your starter completly knackered? I took mine out, then took it apart and cleaned everything inside with wd40, also gave armature a light sand with some fine wet and dry. Put it together again, refitted and now works as good as new.:clap

Both the above , horah :D
I too have rebuilt my starters and from new too :)
Off roading lots kills these starters quick sharp. That said a good dollop of grease and a bit of tigerseal and the starter will go on some more :thumbs

have got a new (sencond hand) one to go in, but i will be attempting to clean out grease, etc the old one to keep as a spare

Hows it come out of there?

Ok new starter motor is in and it still won't turn over just the click any ideas?

I take it you have checked the battery? What with all the attempted starts

I think that I would have checked the new/2nd user starter before I fitted it. Do you know it was working OK when you bought it?

What about getting a jump lead and putting power straight to the starter motor?

New starter motor came from cncfabs so
I guess he would have checked it before sending

Right then, assuming you've put all the wires back in the right place, is the big wire from the battery to the starter in good nick ?
The old starter you have on the floor somewhere, pop your jump leads onto it and spin it over. If it works then the issue could well be wiring related and not the starter at all :augie
