cb installation

well i'm the powder coat plant foreman so life has it's little perks, will have to put some foam on the underside of the bracket as i can see me clonking my head on it untill i get used to it being there.

That looks very nice eltyoo1  Can you see the front of the CB ok when you are in the drivers seat :?: I think you will have to get a set of truck horns to go with the truck style CB mounting

finally got started today on the cb intallation, have fabricated the bracket and tried it in my motor, just got to take it to work and powder coat it.heres a link to what ive done so far  http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/elty001/cbroofmount
Is that directly above your head gud bud ? Are you sure thats ok ? Have you been off roading with it yet ? Has your head made contact with it yet ? Looks good but.......... a dote know ? :?

that thought had crossed my mind, was hoping to mount it nearer the winscreen as i cant see the front, was even toying with the idea of lowering the sun visor 30mm and fitting it underneath it,but it's weather or not it will obstruct my vision,as for banging my head i,m not the tallest of people so i should get away with it but it might be close, have got a bit of adjustment on the bracket so i might fit it touching the roof lining as it sits about 25mm lower at the moment, work for an engineering company so can scrounge plenty of off cuts to play with :?

i mounted mine on the dash, in the center.

i like your fabication, but like dadba said, you sure thats going to be ok?

i have a cb wallet thing mounted to my sun visor, moved to the passenger side in the end because i was too tall (5,11) and kept catching my head on it.

cb installation

i can see this project becoming quite intresting as it goes on,trouble is once i get an idea i have to see it through so i think this bracket it the first of many to come until i get i right 10.4 good buddy

cb installation

fitted the bracket back in as high as it would go and went up the lane upto my friends farm :x  ouch you guessed it my head did clonck the bracket, took the roughest part of the track to get it bouncing around so i guess it's back to the drawing board :? might try the door pocket option next but i like the idea of the cb up out of the way and visible.

Howabout over your left shoulder in the middle and facing forward ?????

he could try that, but it might be set quite far back as theres a sun roof and an interior light there

cb installation

bracket no 2 in the making  this one is a bit more complex than the last one.going to lower the clip out part of the sun visor 30mm and use that fixing point as one of the mounting points.i then removed the interior light and theres a screw i can pick up for the other mounting hole.the idea is the sun visor will still function as it did but the cb will be next to the sun roof switch up on the roof and the sun visor will sit under it :? will see how it goes.

cb

changed my mind again, going to fit it dead center underneath the sunroof switch area, can still pick up on the sun visor brackets but won't have to lower them down, will be able to see the display and wont bang my head on it

That was the 1st place I wanted to mount mine  but my sunroof is a manual one as it was a factory extra & if it was mounted there I wouldn't be able to open the sunroof :(

cb

it will sit under the little pod that contains the electrics for the sunroof, spent about half an hour at work today while i was waiting for a carrier to collect(running late for a change)before i settled on the position, lets just hope this one works, doesn't foul any thing or obstuct the rear veiw mirror so it SHOULD :!: :?: be o.k.

cb

finally got it installed, will post pics later for those who asked

That I do like Elty, that is very nice. Can you remove the thumb screws and drop the set and take another photo showing the bracket and exactly where it is mounted. Well done -welldone-

Well done elty001 :p I think that looks great & proper truck style  Thats where I wanted to fit mine but the manual roof stopped me

cb installation

just got to sort out the wires as its got a cigar lighter plug on it at the mo,gonna route it through the head lining and straight to the battery but thats a job for another day, thanks for the comments and help everyone :smile:no problem jim will get that done in the morning.the bracket picks up on the 2 screws that hold the sunroof and map reading light unit, just removed the cover.this way i can remove the bracket and pop on the cover and all is back as it was.

cb set up

hi elton .
nice bit of work there .
just one thought though. make sure the clamp on mike cable is secure or you may find solder connections failing .
is there anyway you can support the mike cable. tye wrap to clamp or something.
see you soon
