QSK...

When I was at college in the 80's (BTec Electronics) everyone on my course was a ham radio operator and I became quite interested in SSTV which was starting out at that time though I only got as far as doing my morse exam before losing interest and discovering girls.

I used 27meg and bomber band CB quite a bit priding myself on the odd occasion when the unit twig location and skip were exactly right to do some decent DX work before sacking that off and picking up a pair of flashed PMR's for local contact work with my other half (before mobile phones were commonplace).

I keep looking at cheap hand held units on the bay and wondering if I shouldnt pick one up and see whats going on out there in 2m land.

Dont hold a licence any more and doubt my old morse exam cert is valid - anyone know if its a case of just paying my £10 and re-registering and getting my old call sign back -
M3RFV?

amstrad 901 thats a blast from past, mid 80s ?

Blast from the present too, I still have my 901, now fitted in cubby hole under the ash tray.

Very few people have their "ears on" these days, and those that do, hog the breaking channels, 14 and 19 and swear like mad.

I originally bought mine from Dixons in the 80's, when it was first legalised, used to be great on the motorways, for 10-13's better than any modern traffic master, as you could get instant information for your road ahead.

Your morse never expired though there is no requirement for the "Full" license as it is now called. To get your old callsign back you may have to provide proof it was yours. Check out the OFCOM web site or phone them, actually a govt dept that really are helpful too.
Once you have your license back it is now for life so no renewing every year. All you have to do is revalidate every 5 years or less at no extra charge. Dam good value for money i have to say.

Looking at your callsign you did the morse appreciation as part of your foundation trainging/assessment so forget about it dont worry.

Get logged on to ofcom and see if it lets you reactivate that callsign.

You know, this is why this website needs a Facebook style "like" button :clap

Ah don't worry about spelling. I can't spell to save my life. When I was at school in the early 70's I learned something called ITA and it's crippled my ability to spell ever since. It's not held me back though.

Im going to Pete, I bought some roof rails off cnc last week. When i get them fitted I will mount the aerials on them, will probably fit dedicated earths for the Atas. Will need to run some dedicated power cables into the boot too, thats for August when I get back from France and Belgium.
