Just had a discussion with my son about these number stations and he can't accept that nobody has ever used direction finding equipment to track the tranmitters down. He's busy googling now:doh

They have, You know what country is sending them but not the individuals they are sending them too as they just need a basic HF receiver to listen to the messages then decode them.

No way of decoding the messages as the recipient apparently uses a "one time pad"

I have often read it and made no sense of it, I've just translated the latin too :bow

maybe not sinister but recall in fm band around 100Mhz ie radio 1 to classic fm, in 70s
the police broadcasts. weren't supposed to listen to that but bit much in middle of a public band....

Supposedly at the time it wasn't illegal to listen however it was illegal to act upon amd pass on information you heard.
