This will prob be for the hardened CB guy's:augie I've got a Midland 98 (80 ch UK/EU) had it about 6 years or so & it's still a good little set but one thing I keep getting told is that I come across quite when transmitting so was wonder if anyone knew which pot I need to adjust to up the mic gain & if there is anything else I need to do whilst adjusting it:nenau I would also like to up the power a bit that it's putting out say to 5w maybe 6w if it's safe to do so without blowing the rig up I know this is a bit naughty:augie (used to have a Ham concord II that pushed out 11w & was a very naughty rig with 320ch not inc the side bands:lol wish I never sold it now:doh) & lastly if you haven't fallen a sleep yet is there any was of improving the signal the rig pulls in apart from using a bigger aerial.
I've got the wiring diagrams for the 98 some where but it's a bit late now to hunt them out but will tomorrow:thumbs

Don't go making adjustments I've seen far too many radios ruined.

Try holding your mic in a different position. Can you try a different mic?

An extra 1 or 2 watts wont make any difference, even a 25watt linear wont make that much difference either. Better aerial, better feeder (coax) & better joints to your connectors. Better positioning of antenna too. Those will make far more difference than more power.

As Briggie would say get ya foundation passed and try ham bands:thumb2

Hi Jim tried the mic in loads of positions & TBH it made very little difference & what i've read it's a common prooblem with Midlands these days. I do have a power mic but it seems to change the channel on the set at times for some strange reason:doh Thought i's try & iron out the little problems before it gets fitted into the truck. Not sure if I want to take the Ham route but if I found another CB that could do what my old Ham Concord could i'd be very tempted to get it:lol

OK well sounds like you've done some digging, there should be something on the net. Only adjust a little at a time and mark what it was set to before starting. I'd leave the power though, often the RF output can be adjusted up slightly but they have been deliberately not turned to maximum. They could become unstable or produce a messy transmission or shorten the life of the RF stage.

safest way to improve your voice volume , is to buy a power mic , don't twiddle pots inside the radio or you could end up transmitting off frequency amongst other things

I have a superstar 360 ( with splits ) out on permanent loan ...... haven't seen it for years ...... my mate who has it lives in north London lol

As said don't go messing with pots, just chuck a Linear (Burner) into the equation, 4 watts with a KL203 should see you getting about 50-60w out the other end. SWR it all up and get a decent mic and you should be laughing :thumb2

if you have the midland 98 plus ...... then vr4 is mic gain :thumb2

Yes think it is a 98 plus:thumb2 might dig out the old silver rod & set it up in the house & have a play about to see if I can find out why the power mic I've got keeps changing channels:augie

probably a wiring issue on the mic ....... screen etc :thumb2

i think the 98 plus has a "p6" mic wiring ...... which is below :thumb2

Cheers Briggie will check the wiring on the plug:thumb2

i just happen to have a 35w and 100w burners, laying around :augie and these don't hurt the rig as the rig sends signal to burner to be amplified.

also have you tried a pre amp to bring weaker signals in? or a twin twig setup?

also, i have a hi-gain V, with am fm usb and lsb, l m h settings, on another thread somewhere. sounds like kit you like. offers
