I think we all need to have a look under the rear seat, Remove the carpet over the load area.

This area is double skinned and provides a nice warm damp spot for the tin worm to breed.

The worm travels along in little filaments behind the paint looking for another warm damp spot in order to replicate and continue.
The problem is that it attacks from both sides once it has broken through.

I need to do some checking too in that area, especially the concealed area above the chassis.

I bought one of those cameras with a flexi head, so you can poke it through any hole 1/2" diameter.
I am worried what I might find... :doh :doh Should be able to access the sills:doh

A serious job, for after the MOT....:doh
JUST IN CASE :bow

What is most annoying is mine is 'only' 13 years old this year.My first car was a fiat Strada on a Yreg '82?, bought in '96, compared to this Terrano it was like a new pin.

Rear boot/seat area is a easy job in the middle area. It's where theres joins and they used body sealer everywhere which tries to catch fire all the time.

Agreed, have a look, if you really feel like it, take all the carpets out like me, only taken about hour and a half to do, really easy. You might be pleasentl surprised like me, and you find 19 years old degraded food:doh and money, I found 17P :D

Why does ny 1993 terrano have hardly any rot compared to AD Ent's that's really bad compared to mine ,also my 95 and 96 terrano are rotten as an apple.

Better building techniques or material?

Some might of lived most of their life near the sea?

there's loads of different reasons.

As I read 96terrano's thread I started to worry a bit, and when I saw the areas where he has undertaken drastic surgery, I began to think more about the rusty stain that is coming through the biege loadspace carpet on mine, in that area. I think I will have a look at the weekend :(

Regards

Alan

Well mine is December '01 and its allmost totally solid bar that 1 bit by the osr wheel arch.

I've seen these later ones be completely riddled with it, so I guess it depends on the life its led

I did this 2 years ago - nearly had a heart attack :eek::eek::eek::eek:

There were 7 holes if I remember correctly and it was exactly as you said - the dreaded double skin and trapping moisture.

I had it all cut out and new metal welded in. It cost around £400 but I havn't lifted the carpet to take a look since.

Ok I I'm going to take lots of pics and vids of what I'm doing with my truck regarding the floor and post them here, when broadband is back online

got me friend Gail to order some silicon hose as I found the hose that runs to the wather jet on the rear door has rubbed and is leaking, done the same on my old terrano too weirdly so I thought I'll just change the entire hose and route it a different way so it doesn't chafe. Only cost £5 for 5 meters :D. Also ill be getting black shagpile automotive carpet down too but I'm going to have it attached to the floor with Velcro so I can take it back out to clean and get to the floor pan easy for wireing or general maintenance. the seats won't be bolted over the carpet so the carpet can just pull out.

Going to carry one work tomorrow, I'm currently sorting bits of surface rust and putting little niggles right, dads mate Mr bodge 'the guy who pissed up the old starter' is going to weld it, but I'll be closly watching to make sure he doesn't just use a prittstick to attach the plate, only useing the twat because he's dirt cheap :D also I'm looking forward to questioning him about the bodged srartermoter :sly
