I'm quite happy with the standard set up in my T2, but if I were to improve it, would just changing the speakers make much difference :nenau

To be honest id rather the existing stereo was still there. Trouble is for the money Id pay for a replacement I could get something more modern and useable. Id love to get the steering wheel controls working but a quick google shows it isnt possible on that unit of mine. I like to keep things standard for some reason. My old terrano is still standard but the stereo has a faulty display and isnt worth repairing which is a shame as I quite like it with its disk changer.

I wan't to keep the original head unit, just wondering if changing the speakers would much a difference.
In the colder months, the display on mine does go a bit funny until the interior warms up, then it is OK again :nenau

Better speakers would give you a much nicer sound but the sound will still be limited due to it's source

Yayyyyy stopped the demo, now it shows the clock but even worked out how to set the clock via rds.

All measured up and box design sorted. He'll be calculating port size tonight and getting cracking on the build this week :thumb2

What speakers will fit straight in, if any.

Are the JBL speakers on on here a straight swap ??

Standard size is 4x6, my jbl's or any other sized speaker will require some mdf baffles/mounts making up.

4x6 it is then,
Cheers :thumb2

This is most likely what you will have, only problem is, that size is very limited in what it offers as it is an oddball size, when I went to see Clive (audiophile) :lol

All be it a bit messy, we chopped open the doors to allow for bigger speakers and used special pads to reflect the sound back in and stop vibration of the sub ect, it also acted as a buffer/mount for the speakers. It wasn't technical, just fiddily and time consuming, we had to play with the depth of the speakers as it caught on the window too, but after a bit of bending the panel (towards the inside of the car) everything was was perfecto :thumb2

Think I will stick with the factory speakers then.

Heres my 6x9 install in door, mdf surround as i folded a bit too much metal into the door lol

and i had to trim back the door card slightly to allow it to fit over the speaker

Ok here's some pic's of my install:augie

Kenwood stereo

Front doors now home to some 6.5" JBL's on MDF baffles

Rear doors home to some 5.25" JBL's on MDF baffles

250w RMS Kicker amp bridged to power sub, amp is mounted on the back of the sub box which isn't the best place but with 3 layers of 18mm MDF on the back panel of the box there shouldn't be any flex in the wood now & amp has foam under it's mounting points help reduce vibration

Custom made 45L sub box to secure to the 3rd row seat mounting point with 36mm front baffle, DIY sub port made up from 2.5" drain pipe with a 3" opening (think it was a drain pipe reducer) port tuned to 33Hz

Sub box once carpeted up

Thing will change over the next couple of years ie new 6.5" componet speakers for front door & the JBL's in the front will be moved to the back. A second more powerfull amp will be fitted to power the sub which will prob be changed over to either a single or double 12" but may even go for a 15" & the Kicker amp in now will be used to power the front door speakers
