Built in and built on oven?

Hi guys, obviously none vehicle related. Our oven has decided to pack up in the kitchen. As far as I knew it is what I describe as built in or integrated, it’s a separate unit to the hob and it’s built in to one of the cupboard carcasses. Been looking online for a replacement and apparently there are “Built In” and “Built On” ovens. Does anyone know the difference please.

First website we looked at as they’ve been good in the past and clivvy works there “appliances direct” think it’s a .co.uk address.

Sorry guys think it maybe built under not on but you get the picture I’m sure. Feeling a bit under the weather so not at my best today.

Back in my days of Kitchen fitting a built in oven was one that fitted in a unit under the worktop ,or in a tower unit. But you can get ones that just fit between the units with no carcass needed, like a slot in without the hob bit.

Only experience I have had is when I fitted our oven away from from the hob. If you drop down the oven door you will usually find four screws that hold the unit in, two on either side though often fitters just use two screws.

With these removed the oven will pull out but the power cable might stop you removing it too far. I stood ours on a wheelie bin when I was fitting it as they are heavy. You can then check the actual fitting width, height and depth. These measurements will help you choose.
I think built On ovens are where you fit one with another smaller oven or a built in microwave. These have a finishing trim where the two meet. When I did mine I just moved the fixed carcass shelf by about 1/2". I then used a piece of black angle plasic to hide the joint are where the two unit met. The pucka fittings seem to be the preserve of specialist kitchen fitters not found in the likes of B&Q.

Be careful when fitting these ovens, most of them only need a 13A supply so wiring them to a cooker point may result in a fire if any thing goes wrong.

Built in under is a single oven typically about 60cm sq. A decent volume these days too.
Built under is different as it's a "double" oven hanging under the hob between adjacent units. Typically 72cm tall. Piddly little ovens not big enough to dry soggy brake shoes in
Buy quality.

So this would be a Built Under double oven with the top being a grill as well.

Wife went looking for a replacement oven today, I can’t believe the crap shops were giving her. One retailer who two of our members on here work for the salesman couldn’t work the computer system and wasn’t interested in my wife or what she wanted to purchase. Another shop with a big name that sounds very much like some spicy food only had two of the built under type but these stand on legs and don’t fit in a carcass. This is going to be a right royal pain in the bottom.

built under, has feet, sits on floor and would typically be under the hob in the worktop

Well I can confirm that Bosch we have currently is held into a carcas with 4 screws. It also has no legs or feet just slides into the carcass.

If the Bosch is in your price band I would go for another Bosch.

We have a Whirlpool Electric Fan Oven in our kitchen it has been trouble free since I fitted it in 2005,Clock Timer, Fan Assisted options with umpteen modes in stainless with double glass window. It was £500 with a Belling ? Gas Hob from B&Q.

My Brother has a very expensive Neff Induction Hob & Oven its had the Hob replaced twice first time under warranty.

Bosch is a good entry level bit if kit.
Built under "double". It can be on legs or fit in a carcass or fit onto metal angle iron fitted to adjacent units. Makes no diddly but newer models will have bigger usable volume and tend to have more functions.

Well guys thanks for all the advice. We have ordered a Neff from Currys today, it’ll be here on Monday.
Had fun with the salesman though, he was very pushy trying to sell extra warranty and a new energy supplier. He tried telling me that the manufacturers warranty is very limited and doesn’t covery very much at all where as their warranty covers everything even accidental damage, they’ll even replace the oven if it can’t be fixed and as long as we keep paying there isn’t a time limit on the cover. Apparently if a switch breaks in the manufacturers warranty it’s not covered or a door seal. Even tried explaining that if a faulty occurs due to a manufacturing fault then it is covered. Actually ended up getting quite heated from him as well. Anyhoo not worth carrying on but we needed the oven they have it ready for delivery on monday so we got it but seen as we have the salesmans name on the invoice I think his manager will be getting a nice polite letter:augie

As I understand it the Sales Assistants only get commision on a sale if they sell "Extras" hence the push to sell you extra insurance. It is annoying they will be selling the Currys Cover I would definitely consider the Manufacturers Neff cover as they are expensive to fix. My brother's induction hob was replaced under warranty and when it failed again he was able to take out a Neff extended warranty after the second hob ring failed and it was not an expensive policy cheaper than the Currys one.

Excellent they kept to their word and deliverbefore 8:30. Everything would be good apart from it’s bloody damaged:doh they won’t have another until 15th December at the earliest.
