Right this is a bit of a continuation of the original thread but this is the correct place for it

here is a video of what is going on in the header tank.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOmX4gtG81U

went to the garage today and got told that it is normal for this engine to do this and i should just drive it about till it goes bang  and that its too old to worry about :doh

so then took it to another garage which they had a look and said that they cant smell any combustion gasses but it is getting air in the system from some where, which could be the early stages of the hg failing, but wasn't 100% sure

i have added some k-seal to the tank and followed the instructions properly but all that has seemed to have done is made the radiator spill out white froth everywhere and that goes over to the head tank as well

quick question tho how many pipes should go to the header tank as it seems it only has the one which comes from the radiator cap, reason for this question is how does it manage to refill the radiator when their is a pressure plate in the way from the rad cap ???

right where can i get this tool from ??
Remove injection nozzle holder from first cylinder with a special
tool (KV119E0030). Remove injection nozzles from cylinders
2, 3 and 4 using a deep socket wrench.

also once the head is removed can i give it to a shop to skim and pressure test with all the bits still in place or do i have to remove all the valves etc ??

cheers for any help

get it down to rick ( solarman 216 ) and swifty ... they will sort it no trouble at all , but they are on the south coast .... er are you in the rac or aa ? :augie

I must say your header tank is nice and clean, but head gasket gone no question, there is only one pipe from the rad cap to the header and if you look closely at the cap it has two seals one on the bottom and one on the top so excess water can go into the header tank and as the engine cools it is sucked back via a one way valve in the cap, with a cast iron head it is unlikely to need skimming, Rick

thats shit luck that is and im sorry to hear you have hgf. maybe the info i have recieved over the years is a loadabullshite then, i heard that diesel engines dont get as hot as petrol engines and hgf is very rare on a diesel????

anyway, manchester to kent on a blown head????? not advisable (but rick and swifty are worth the journey just for the conversation lol).

Ask Briggie, he went from Brighouse to Great Yarmouth on a blown gasket, the point is these engines have a cast iron head, and Briggies gasket had been passing gas for weeks, if it was an ali head different story altogether, Rick

i would love to be in a possition to travel down to the se but not really do able at the mo

i might as well takle the hgf my self taken apart a few bike engines befor now and done a rover vitesse hg befor so might as well have a go if it goes wrong i can always get a garage to put a new engine in it as thats about the same cost as the garage wants to do the hg

just need to know about these special tools required can find any info on the one i listed above

rick or swifty depends which one reads this first is their anything to really worry about on this job or is it straight forward? other than the nissan tool is their any other that is needed to make life easier ???

Yes same for petrol, some engines are better than others, we have been racing Mondaos for awhile but the rad is the first thing to hit on a banger, no water = boil after a few laps head gasket gone straitaway, cant even keep water in it for another race, but we have just tried an escort 1.6 (I think) in the mondao and it is a different thing altogether, as normal boiled every race, but after about 8 races it was still going strong, but the body fell apart, so we will be looking for escorts engines in the future, Rick
