Yep, had to do a couple small finishing off jobs, couple of hours at the most, then went to the electrical wholesalers before heading home with the intension of starting on Harlowmavs motor, came out from the shop and got the dreaded clicking starter solenoid and nothing more, so thought must be battery ( but it is fairly new) anyway did the normal headlights on try starter sure enough lights dimmed a lot, so popped the bonnet before looking for the jump leads and noticed the spray grease on the battery terminals was glistening touched them and they were hot, checked the battery terminal at the starter also hot, realise now it is the starter, no need for jump leads, I need a snatch, never a motor about when you want one, any way eventually got a tug and headed home, removed starter and stuck the jump leads on the motor side, nothing except the clamp meter said 850 amps, wow, could not imagine what could cause this other than clearly the armature was not turning, stripped it all out and on my one the gear end of the armature is on needle rollers which had broken up so it was jambed on the side casing, armature goosed, bearing casing goosed, all the others that I have has a bush not rollers, cleaned em all up and in the morning will select the best bits and remake a starter, Rick
