Right, changed the air filter the other day and removed the MAF and tapped out any loose bits. I did want to remove the sensor itself but it seems you need a special tool!

There's two torx type screws which hold the sensor to the MAF housing, but, there's a pin in the centre of each screw which prevents any normal torx driver to be used.

Any ideas? Or where can I get a special driver bit thing.

Also, it's deffo a Bosch MAF, and It needs some attention as I'm still geting serious lag/drop-off when accelerating! How much is the sensor and apart from cleaning with electrical contact spray stuff, what's the alternative?

Cheers

can you not just break the pins in the middle think i did that once to get at a torx in their when i wasnt able to get the holed torx's most local tool shops might have them

Anythings worth a try, have plenty of torx drivers. Cheers.

They are security torx heads, but you can unwind them with a good pair of vice grips.

Oooh, can't resist an new set of tools :)

Screwfix or tool station might have them, screwfix sell the screws as well. or ebay, they are called tamperproof torx or tamperproof screwset or similar.

However not very tamperproof if the tools are easy to get.:lol

But slows down the opportunist I guess.
I keep a set in my Mav, inc the triwing and also the allen ones with the pin as well.
Never know when you need them, especially used more now on electronic items.

Yeah, they seem to appear everywhere you look nowadays. Might get a set of tamperproof tools just in case!

is that the ones that are in a seal container and you cant get to them :lol:lol:lol:lol

the only reason i know they do break off was i used a flat blade screwdriver initially

haha, sure to get a laugh on here either way...lol

I'll have a go with the screwdriver idea first, but still might get the tools for future use. I seem to do that, buy tools for a particular job (car, house etc) then only use them every 5 years or so...lol...always handy to have ;)

Ok, tried to knock the security pins out on the screws with a screwdriver....no go, pretty heavy duty! Then got a socket set from Machine Mart, Torx Security etc, the thing is, the Torx are 6 pin star shape whereas the screws on the MAF on my truck are a 5 pin star shape! Any ideas?

Get some vice grips/pliers/water pump pliers on the outside edge of the screw and they will come out, then replace with the favourite screw of your choice!

either that or get hack saw cut heads off then the maf will prise off grab mole grips and take out the studs left or leave them in and they help keep the maf in place when u put it back on it worked for me:augie :thumb2:D

Bloody hell!!! No wonder you lot have MAF problems!!! LMAO! :lol:lol

the Hitachi maf as only two philips screws and its easily pulled out and cleaned, I have a set of tools for all the different types of security screws, sorry not much help to you as I am up in Cumbria, regards bri
