Boot door seal....again Arrrgh!!!!

Hi all,

The plastic wine syphon hose inside the door seal worked for a bit but now it's distorted the seal and it now prefers to slip down past the top left corner rather than up against it. I've done all the usual fixes and still it pi$$es in!!! :banghead

The door seal is now looking pretty tired and now anything I put into the boot soaks up as much moisture as it wants, I noiticed a few brown mushrooms growing by the RH wheel arch, all this water is perfect food for the old tin worm.
In the mornings on the way to work it rains from the condensation from my sun roof, I use a windscreen wiper to wipe the windscreen and drown my dashboard - I dread when it freezes in the winter as last year I got high on de-icer fumes as I had to use it on the inside of my windscreen. :doh.... sigh

Anyway - what I'm angling at - does anyone know where I can get a new door seal from?

Yes a defiant good idea, also might sound a bit silly, but strip the carpet back and spray it with a water dispersant, I e wd40

It might atleast protect the metal a bit :thumb2

By the way, if it is a LWB, and running through the back door, it will be puddling under the rear seat.

When mine was leaking, I took the rear carpets out for a few days to dry everything out properly.

This sounds like it has the potential to get serious and rot the car and you don't want that happening!!!!

So I'd take drastic action before you have to do drastic repairs, preventative measures now could save you big money later

I'd be removing the rear bench, then pulling the carpets back all the way to the back of the rear seats, get yourself a new door seal and then fix it in place using some black tigerseal, this should attach is nice and tight and should also push it out a bit more so the seal should be extra tight

I'd then be asking someone to stand outside the car with a hosepipe constantly aiming it at the door seals while you are sat inside watching, therefore if there is another ingress of water from somewhere then you'll know!!! :clap

Sorry I cant offer much advice. I can tell you that lazy ferret did a post with photos regarding resealing his old seals. If you need any form of automotive sealer I can highly recommend tigerseal but its kind of permanent when its glued on with tat stuff but it is very good. The top seal has a clip at either end that goes into a holes in the body so i can imagine they could leak if not sealed.

Never had my seal off but it's held onto the door by little T shaped clips which just push into the holes on the door & I would think you'll get new clips with the new seal. Now the seal should be shaped to match the door & will be either one piece or cut. If it's one piece you'll have to disconnect the door check strap which you put a pic up of all you need to do is tap out the roll pin (arrowed it) that holds the check strap onto the body

Sweety,yeah it's a one piece seal & is complete with the little fixings too. I just didn't want to start messing with any door fixings without first checking with others who had already done it.

So when I tap out the roll pin,does it matter if that is tapped from above or below? As I recall it being flanged slightly I think. And once out, I'm guessing I just reverse the process by tapping back the way it came out? Or can it just go back in via the top?

I'm sure the roll pin is tapered & will need knocking upwards to remove it & when you come to refit the pin you'll have to tap it downwards, not checked mine to see if it's tapered or not as it's blowing a gale out there at the min & temps dropped to freezing again:doh oh keep a few of the old T shaped clips just in case you ever get a broken one as i'm not sure if you can buy them so would be handy to have some spares:thumbs

I will take time to check out the pin to see if it is tapered etc thanks for that, it's a very good idea too about keeping hold of the T shaped pins as back up.

I have the door sealed with tape tonight in case it rains again, as it looked threatening earlier.

Update: I had done the job,but at the very end the seal didn't fit, despite it being the correct part number & over laying the two seals etc to check sizes. Nissan claim a faulty part, so I'm off to swap it.

I fixed mine nearly 2 years ago now with tiger seal and some clear 6mm tubing to thread inside the old seal on the hinge side and door lock side and re seated the old seal at the same time and placed tiger seal along the rubber thats on the body at the top and some under the foot plate and about a inch up either side of the seal that sits around the door that goes under the foot plate . it hasn't leaked once

my fix for this problem

I think my leak was caused by a groove worn in the body by the seal over the years ( see circle pic 1 before foam ) So I got some Neoprene self adhesive tape 25mm x 2mm x 5m (closed cell type) stuck this all the way round except along the bottom, a strip along where the plastic cover goes plus about 50mm overlap & a bit on each end of the cover where it sits over the edge trim (see pic 2)

I done this about 4 weeks ago, now you all know how much rain we have had since then, but my boot has remained 100% dry. this method allows you to remove your trim if you need to without all the mess :thumbs

I noticed my rear door area has been a bit damp and I thought my Terrano had no rust at all anywhere, but I was wrong.
The very top door seal has two plastic pegs behind the seal in the very corners
my paint was holding the rust together and after a bit of poking revealed an inch square hole on each side of the door surround.
Just a thought might be worth looking at, my Ter is pretty mint rust wise.
