who bought a pup

pete now what is it you have had done to the nissan in total now ??

mine was never a pup mine was low millage and full ford and nissan service history and at 88000 miles hg failed still hasnt done 90000 miles yet, but that was down to me :augie:augie

actually reference isuzu i know a recovery man and asked his opinion on these befor i purchased one he said stay away from the 3l as it is a bit unreliable and he also went on to say that he has never had the privilege to tow one away :nenau

i understand the head gasket is a common fault on the 3.1td of mine but so is any hg :thumbs

sally has had a new gearbox , due to the fact the previous owner neglected to put a auto radiator in with a atf cooler lol

besides that , she has had a head gasket and general servicing

well there you go, this truck is a good truck and will eventually get another cylinder head. but for the mean time i think it is time to retire it.
i will sleep on it and see how i feel in the morning.
whats your offer for it anyway adz?
you know the truck, after all it was yours before mine.
lots of new parts now :augie

Lets be honest every brand has its monday morning cars amongst them. The list is pretty comprehensive. I know an individual who's brand new BMW 3 series drivers seat mountings came loose, quite scary , then once they were fixed it developed some odd electrical problems. I had a sierra with the cvh engine aka classic weak pistons only one of mine went at 30 odd thousand instead of nearer 70 as they uses to.

On the other hand I bought a SEAT years ago , ignoring the prophets of doom (none of whom had owned one) and it was the most reliable petrol car I have ever had managing 130 + thou miles and still going strong when we parted company.

Buy any car, you takes a chance. Thats why warranties are such big business :thumb2

dont get me wrong , i wish everybody well with whatever vehicle(s) they choose to own , you pays your money and you takes your choice i suppose ... would i get another mistral / terrano ?.... damn right i would :thumb2

ive just popped out to have a look at the odometer on sally ... its showing

158456 km , which is roughly 98,460 miles

Whats bombproof???? well a newish motor aint, ask any mechanic in any garage across the country and they will tell you "too many electronics on todays motors" To be honest I think the Mav/terrano as said previously is as good if not better than most, but its all about prevention rather than cure. At a merc garage in Dartford last year a bloke stood outside with a banner saying hed spent 74k on a new Merc and it was shite.... the list was endless with what had gone wrong, I actually stopped and spoke to the guy and got him a coffee as I had sympathy with him but to say that these motors of ours aint reliable is crap, they are a worktool that will take the abuse that modern vehicles will not, but its common sense that the lubes and fliuds need to be checked regularly. The guy down in Dartford said "I had a old merc and it was more reliable than my new one" so it seems to me that the older ones are better and I think this is true about our motors. Mine has been thro everything that has been thrown at it and survived with hardly no issues. still done 150k on the original rear shocks and are as new in condition. How many 4x4s have done this???? Ok theres faults but remember we live in a throw away world and for me I wouldnt be without my Mav, its been the best motor Ive owned and dread the day when it goes tits up and dies, when it does I shall spend good money on a old T2 to replace it for sure

Name me a alternative thats as relibale and as cost effective to run and maintain??? oh and its got to be within the same price range and does the same MPG and as comfy and has the same towing capabilities???

Struggling arent you??

Enough said

my isuzu is as reliable according to the net and also bigger with a better gear ratio and is also more Comfortable than the mav was and was cheaper to insure than the mav

cost the same as mavs/terranos and has a max towing Mass of 3500kg

and also i get better mpg on motorways at arround 30mpg doing 65mph

not to mention the 7 seat side of things i have fold down seats so i can use 1 and still have half a boot left

if it wasnt for the seats in the boot and the fact that at 70mph i am looking at 3000rpm i would have gone for the mav/terrano again

the fact you are happy with your vehicle karl is great , what make / model it is , is somewhat irrelevant , i am also happy with my vehicle and would certainly purchase another , although i may look at a patrol , i wish you well with your new vehicle mate , brand loyalty i can understand , but brand snobbery i dont , que sera

pete i am not being a brand snob would never dream of that lol actually if any thing the nissans are higher profile than the isuzu due to the recognised name

this is the first isuzu i have ever owned and i did like the mav and if i never went too deep i would still have it

the isuzu just out does the mav on its toys and suitability that was all

but to get back on topic the nissan td27 engine that is what the thread is about, probably has a better name for its self due to the taxi's and not the terrano or mav

just a quick search on ebay shows how many mav's and terrano's are being broken:eek:

Interesting posts. How many on here would go back to carburetors and distributor caps in their petrol cars? I remember the bother fuel injection used to give when it was new technology, seem to recall people saying then that the "old" cars were better. It always takes time for "new technology" to be accepted. In fact, marketing even has a name for people who rush to have this new technology first, they are called "early adopters". They are usually the ones who give all the new stuff a try first and probably moan if it doesn't live up to expectations.

However, all this "new technology" usually comes good in the end, as these electrics in modern motors will. It may well take a few attempts and updates of components (bit like Windows software) but soon we will all wonder how we got by with wind up windows, manual locking,no sunroofs or aircon etc.:D

Karl, This is the bottom line.

AT THE MOMENT yours is ok and the reviews on the Isuzu do say that there are issues with them

YOURS costs the same as a mav/terrano, but I personally wouldnt buy a motor without all its windows intact...:lol :lol

Motorway mpg but what about around town with that autobox going up and down all the time in traffic?????

Personal opinion as to whether we all travel at 70 mph, at 3000rpm, I have had 28 yrs experience at hgv driving and have seen many people sitting at 70 without a cat in hells chance of stopping in a emergency, ever thought of what the distance would be if you wanted to stop, especially considering the weight of the car in the first place.

Rear seats, well it aint a problem for me as theres only me and the missus.

Truth is its early days for the Isuzu, and they aint the cheapest motor to repair IF you have a problem, and if you were to do the same with the Isuzu as you did with the mav are you saying that the same wouldnt happen??
as I say bottom line is there aint a better motor pound 4 pound on all fronts better than the Mav / terranos, trust me if there was I would be driving it.

Oh and dont do what you did with the Mav and go and drown it, it only died due to piss poor preparation truth be known.

I guess youd at least add a snorkel next time out

Dont take this as a personel attack its just to show that we all aint Isuzu fans and are very protective of our choice of 4x4 :thumbs :thumbs

Yup and jeeps are best anyway because...............:augie:augie:naughtyn

Daved Dont start, Have a look at 4x4 mag for November they have a poncy jeep on the front cover, looks the business but couldnt pull the skin off a rice pudding!!!!!

it passed the rice pudding bit, it certainly seemed to be more looks than substance but hey ................ still nowhere near as good as my grand cherokee. what with 19 seats , 73 miles to the gallon at 125mph towing a caravan and no rust cos it come from cornwall its the best :clap:clap

on a slight aside in that mag I see the Niva is reborn :thumb2

unfortunately when I tried to get onto it and follow the links the web site reflected the old lada principle of........not working properly :nenau:D
