Hi guys,

I recently serviced my 1998 terrano 11,2.7 manual, oil, air ,fuel and filters.
The engine had ran absolutely mint prior to this, started without even needing to crank at all.It was up and running on the first turn of the key.

So i know the problem isnt glow plugs, maf etc...the usual suspects.

Now i have to crank the engine 2 or 3 times at lenght to get it started and then it runs a little rough.....not as bad at higher speeds.

I believe i have air in the fuel system or maybe drawing in air from somewhere.I used the little primer pump on top of the filter housing to try and get fuel supplied to the engine(fill the filter) to no real benefit.
I then took the filter off and filled it with diesel and put it back on,primed again with the pump and still no joy.laboured starts continue.
Am i doing something in the wrong order? or is there a proper procedure for fuel system bleeding in this terrano ?
My pug 306 would just blow it all through and jobs a goodun!

On the manual pdf is just refers to "see section SC for fuel bleeding",
any links or info would be appriecated.
I have bought an other new filter, not halfords this time, and i intend to replace the water drain section on the bottom of the filter too in case it is not sealing correctly.

Thanks in advance for any advice,i will report back if i get it sussed.ta

Sounds like it has not been bled fully.
When you primed it did the primer knob go hard ?

If not you still have air in the system, so keep on pumping the primer until it goes rock hard.

Other option is to start again and you'll need to take the filter off again and fill it up with diesel and prime again until the primer knob goes hard, then start the motor and pump the primer again tell hard just in case get to get any air left in the line out.

it is possible that the primer diaphram has gone , in which case it will never go hard :lol , in that case you will need to place a hand squeeze pump in line . its a good idea to place some injector cleaner in the fuel fliter as well as diesel .

Yeah, i am convinced i have air in the system and to start again is the best option.
I was concerned that I might be missing something obvious,an bleed point i wasnt aware of,etc.
I am a shift worker so i will start it on wednesday when i get my day off.hopefully it will go alright.
Thanks for the advice chaps

Had the same thing happen to me on my old t2. Found out it was a cheaaaap fuel filter. Did not seal right. Good one's have a little seal round the thread part. The cheap one i bought did not have this seal :doh. Put a good one on. Was fine after. :thumbs With me cheap is not best.

Same here.... had problems in the past with cheapo air filters too!!!

Use genuine Nissan ones now (air, fuel, oil) .... much as it pains me to do!!!

Thanks for the tips guys,

I got another filter and this one came with an O ring to seal the lower filter end to the water trap. The Halfords one didnt.

I installed the water trap WITH O-ring this time, filled the filter with diesel(i wasnt taking any chances) reasembled the filter to the housing and primed the filter till it was solid to pump.

Guess what ? it starts fine and has done all day:)

Its back to starting first click and it isnt missing a beat.
I think we know the moral of the story,eh.

After reading the downloads,i now have few more jobs lined up,heater resistor, changing the stereo and suspension drop links !!
Cheers

Sorted i see

A were good Big Black Arnt we :lol :lol :lol

Never had problems with the Halfords Oil filter, HOF 205 I think, but I bought a "low cost" fuel filter from a motor factor, white smoke everywhere, it didn't seal, so off to the Nissan main dealer.... no problems since, so the low cost fuel filter wasn't that low cost in the end. :doh
