bad news..
yesterday evening i went to the shop to check my truck. it was in the garage with the bonnet still open and the pump on the Bosch testing machine.
The pump specialist said that it was leaking from the head and that the pump has never been overhauled. so last year the previous mechanic didn't do the work i paid for.

a bit disappointed, as you can imagine. quite angry indeed.

at least i've seen my pump being tested so, now, i'm sure it'll be ok. i was also noticing the truck a bit rough idling, but i though it was normal for this engine, as i've never driven anything similar before. but he told me it wasn't normal and it'll be fixed servicing the pump.

so.. more time to wait and more money to spend, but eventually it's going to be perfect!
at least till next problem!

I'm sorry to hear that mate about your previous garage not doing the work you'd paid for but not surprised. My partner has a 2011 Ford Fiesta 1.2, she is insistent on getting all work and servicing done at the main dealer. She had it booked in for a full service a few years ago at our local main dealer (belts, filters etc etc) despite me offering to do it for her she wouldn't let me near it so without her knowledge I went around the car and paint marked all of the parts that were supposed to be replaced.

Car came back the same day and only the fuel filter and cabin filter had been replaced Misses wouldn't even let me confront the garage about it but we don't use them anymore, can't even trust the main dealers :doh

that's why i want to learn to do as much works as possible (and consequently, why i always bother you!)..
Finding a trustful mechanic here is like winnng the lottery.

Fortunately this time I personally saw my pump on the machine.. and my trust rised a bit!

Been there ,done that, used machines like that many years ago, never owned one, but then unless I set myself up as a service agent I would hardly use it so it would be wasted, besides I can do most of the main testing on the bench with a drill a few pipes injectors and gauges, Rick

pump is back on the engine!
after some hundreds euros of bill..

it was leaking from the head, but it needed to be serviced and the man replaced some components and i hope i'll not be wrong translating it for you.. of course gaskets, but also some spacer and the pumping elements.

talking with him he confirmed some suspects: the water pump was making a bit of noise and also the valves.
so i think i'll replace the whole water pump (manual says you can't service it) and i'll check valve clearance.
in the manual I've found clearance values for hot engine.. have you ever checked the values for cold valves? i think it's safer to operate!

A tip for tappet clearances, the setting is 12 thou, but do not bother with feeler gauges, with the valve closed loosen the lock nut then with a screwdriver tighten the screw till it just touches the valve, then back of exactly one quarter turn and lock it up, the reason for this is most times the rocker has an indentation making feelers useless, and hot or cold will make little difference, Rick
