Tomorrow morning. Trouble is it's the first weekend I'll be home for ages and the blasted piston rings didn't show up
Plenty to do mind, I'll probably spend all day sorting out the mech pump

Yep quite scored would be letting oil through without a doubt, Rick

Any idea what sort of debris could have done this or how it got in ?
Can't see any sign of swarf in the oil/sump or filter :augie
It's not impossible dirt could have got in I suppose on an injector change or glow plugs ?

Most likely debris that has entered via the intake, done it's mischief and exited out the exhaust, Rick
