Block is back from honing ☺

Spent some hours tonight stripping off the special bits off my old lump.

Need to get new shells and rings now and start the rebuild proper

Opened up the old engine tonight . I hoped to find the obvious cause of it's heavy breathing but so far no sign. Well Rick might see something lol
It's remarkable really, considering incredible abuse it's had in my care :augie

Well it has definitely had some debris floating around getting trapped tween pistons and head but only small stuff No 1 is worst, it will be interesting to get the pistons out and see if the rings are binding, Rick

Which one is number one in the second picture Rick?

it is the one on the left but it does not look as bad as the piston probably cos it is cast iron, but it will be interesting to see if such small debris could distort the piston to the point of sticking the rings, other options for oil burn are broken rings and or valve stems badly worn, unfortunately we could not see much of the bores, Rick

I notice that the port from the combustion chamber/pre-heat chamber (or whatever it is called) is cleaner and not as clogged as the rest, I find that intriguing!

Not sure what you are looking at but No 1 indirect injection port has a small buildup of carbon on the left of the port all the rest are clean, that will almost certainly be an injector problem, Rick

Ah yes my mistake, have a look at the ports in these two pics Rick, Bosch and Zexel differences maybe :nenau

yes I knew the heads were different for the two they have different part numbers if you want to know them then say, Rick

This is Zexel . I noticed some lovely indentations on no4 piston lol.
Will get the piston out at the weekend and also spy the valves ☺

Injectors were refurbished only a few hundred mikes ago. Prior to that though I had injector issues.
