Hello again, I dont think we should be chipping in to buy anything else frankly.
We just run the risk of buying another lemon at the sort of money the last few suggestions are at.
The Toyota is very capable and reliable its true but they're even more awkward to work on and not so good on the engine mileage longevity.Perm 4x4 too.
The Mitsi is like my truck, all bashed and bruised. They normaly go for 1500 min.
I'm happy to chip in to restore Briggie to the road in the cheapest practical way.
I just think now we should take up the free workshop and fitter offer. That way with the generosity of the pledges above he's back on the road at the cost of an engine.
THEN when it's done we can close this case and let Briggie keep or sell Sally as he sees fit for his future needs.
If you see what I mean:D

i think make It Fit makes a fair point. the generous offer of help from the south coast changes things, and as Makeit suggests, if the truck still plays up, it shoudl still be a runner worth soem money and he can tarde in/ sell on as he see fit, as a club, we've still helped and he'll still be on the road one way or another.

the off er of fitting the engine is very VERY generous, i'm leaning that way with a view to getting the truck fixed and on the road, then, Petes options increase ten fold because a working, moveable truck is worth considerably more than the sum of its parts.

I have got to go up to Nelson some time to look at a job so no problem on picking Briggies motor up, he cant be too far from Nelson either, if you find another engine we can sling that in, if its another car I can bring another driver to drive it back as long as it is able as it were, Rick:thumb2

There's so many proposals flying about,it might be a good idea just to pick a few of the good ones and see which sounds best. Have to agree , the offer of the workshop and someone to fit an engine seems to be number one at the moment.

like i said the offer of workshop and transplant is a very nice offer..... when its actually broken.

its not yet.

so drive it and see.... again nothing to loose

Just a quick up date on repairs, if the bottom is knocking at all it's a crank regrind, no other way, just shells is not an option, if it is knocking then driving is not an option either, above 2000 or so revs and I would not give it 50 miles, before it became undriveable and possibly wreck the engine for good into the bargain, find me an engine and I will put it in, local yards to me only have a 2.4 petrol, Rick

Here's one I found earlier with low miles and 3 mths g/tee

Trouble is we just dont bloody know exactly what's wrong with it.
However if Briggie wont drive it for fear of it konking out and not getting recovered etc etc I'd like to see the engine changed and then we can walk away from this heads high.

Briggie's then on his own to use it and abuse it as he sees fit :sly

ok as you adamant in changing it.. and pete wont drive it

how about petes mrs drives the nissan and pete drives the landy...

or show us exacly how much this will cost...

engine transportation . consumables everything .

how much is this going to cost as a last ditch effort , not that i agree with it you understand . not till its broke anyway

How about a poll?
I'm not pushing for one fix or another, other than I dont see we should be considering buying Briggie another truck/car.
Fix it , and leave it for him to use:bow

aye, I give in, a POLL is required lol, some brilliant ideas floating about, but we need to all agree, then we can settle into the interesting part of actually fixing the machine, I still cant get over the offer from down south, totally awesome, would be silly to pass on that offer. I agree as wel that the engine is going to go, and under Petes circumstances, its too risky, and a bit tight tasking Shiela to driv eit lol, her business/work will suffer as a consequence!

any hoo, whos gonna set up the poll? needs deciding on quick step.

my view is its down to briggie as to what he wants to do,
after all hes got to live with it
